Briatore not convinced Newey will make a difference

Even though they have enlisted the services of the highest respected design guru in Formula One, Adrian Newey, Red Bull Racing wont become a threat to the top teams anytime soon, according to Renault team boss Flavio Briatore that is.

Speaking to the Italian press, Briatore was quite firm in his belief that Red Bull owner, Dietrich Mateschitz, is not in the series to create a driving force, instead it is all a case of fun and games, hence the reason why stealing Newey away from the Mercedes powered McLaren team wont have the effect many seem to be anticipating.

"He is a rich man who has decided to enjoy himself," the Renault boss told the Gazzetta dello Sport. "And Newey? Do you want to bet he'll win nothing with Red Bull? Thankfully people c##k up, otherwise it would be hard to win!"

Looking back at the seasons results, Red Bull actually moved the former Jaguar Racing Team a lot further up the grid than anyone expected, so maybe Briatore’s opinion on the current situation may end up being a little wide of the mark.

Adrian Newey has a excellent record. He has made alot of winning cars in both Williams and McLaren and he is widely regarding in the paddock as the best car designer. A prime example of Neweys abilities is the MP4- 19 which was a really crappy car that Newey didnt design, but when Newey took a more active role in the design of the MP4-20 McLaren were suddenly winning again. I think that the 2007 RB3 will be a good, solid car that has the ability to win races.

Good points but I doubt RBR will win races (at least not genuinely) in 2007. Regarding McLaren, they did manage to make some superlative machines and won many world titles before Newey arrived. Furthermore, they have been aware of his desire to leave for quite some time and have prepared for it so perhaps Newey
