Lubes & Fuels in Formula One

Does anybody know which company "really" supply the Formula One Teams? Which oil company only sponsor a team and which one is a supplier?

I believe the teams lube themselves (that sounds so wrong), so to speak. Mclaren has close ties with Mobil 1, while Ferrari get their oils etc. from Shell. Williams are with Castrol, and the list goes on and on...

Hi,

Renault is supplied by elf (total), this commercial unity has been used for a lot of years and in every place Renault put an engine.

maybe the only time when this didnt happened, was when elf leave F1 a year before Renault quit (as renault not mecachrome) and williams started to use Castol.

Yea, that looks about right The fuel used, though slightly higher octane, is almost the same as what you buy at the pump..

By the FIA regulation the F1 fuel should work normaly in a road car, should be similar to a pump fuel.

Since 2001 (Racecar Magazine - January/2001)the F1 regulation is the same of the comercial fuels to be sold in Europe from 2005 onwards. For 2004 it is more strict: 10parts per million of Sulfur although the regulation for Europe in 2005 says 50parts per million.

I have just be informed that during the Jerez test people from Petrobras were there in negotiations with Jordan regarding a fuel/lubs supply in 2004.

Have a look in what I've found in another F1 Forum...

"Gossips regarding oil and fuel supply in F1:

Castrol/BP could replace Elf at Jordan. Cosworth is pushing them to have only one supplier for their developments.

Shell is having problems to justify their sponsorship to Ferrari. They have recentely subestimate their oil reserves and are having problems with the stockholders. They can probably leave Ferrari by the end of the year.

Petrobras is under discussions with Ferrari in order to support Rubens in 2005 an replace Shell as a fuel/lubes supplier of the Team. The ageement Petrobras/Williams finishes by the end of this season
