JV sweeps Williams poll...

From Autosport.com:

Result: JV sweeps Williams poll

You voted in your thousands for Villeneuve to return to F1

You voted in your thousands for the return of JV to Williams in 2005

After Jacques Villeneuve was added to the growing list of drivers in the frame to replace Juan Pablo Montoya, and most likely, Ralf Schumacher at the BMW WilliamsF1 Team next year, we thought we'd ask you who you would most like to see driving an FW27 in 2005.

You responded in your thousands and it appears quite a lot of you are fans of the French-Canadian former world champion. Villeneuve won the poll hands down with more votes than all the others put together.

Quite a lot of you were excited by the very realistic prospect of Mark Webber switching from Jaguar to Williams next year while IRL champion Scott Dixon crossing the pond has caught your imagination too.

But perhaps the biggest surprise of all was just how few of you would like to see Jenson Button return to the team that gave him his chance in F1. Is it because this year's Williams chassis does not appear to be as competitive as Jenson's BAR or is that it would be a shame to see BAR dip in form if they lost Button next year? Only you guys know the answer to that.

Check out the full results of the poll below.

1 – Jacques Villeneuve – 57.27%

2 – Mark Webber – 15.66%

3 – Scott Dixon – 9.26%

4 – Giancarlo Fischella – 7.0%

5 – Antonio Pizzonia – 6.06%

6 – Jenson Button – 4.76%

You’re a little prone to exaggeration aren’t you – on both comments.

JV was a good driver. I don't think he is up to it anymore but i'd admit im wrong if he prooved otherwise.

in 96 and 97 he was great so there i no doubt he does have the talent to do it. when he went to BAR he seemed to not be so good, perhaps he struggles for motivation?

still not over Jerez '97 then? you know Jacques Villeneuve, the guy who made M$ look like the biggest tool to grace the F1 paddock. It's ok though, you'll get a reminder when JV comes back in the Williams and proves your boy was nothing but lucky cos Jacques was in a sh!tbox for 5 years. We don't think he's God, that's what M$ is for  For someone so washed up he's doing ok to get his name in all the papers, websites, magazines, having fans vote for him, Williams contacting him about his availability. Yeah, he's pretty washed up alright. :)

jordan rule, you're right there about his motivation, 5 years of driving nothing but uncompetitive, unreliable cars got to him and Jense took full advantage of it last year. JV is now more motivated then ever, thanks to DR, and could do the job. You don't lose talent overnight. Motivation comes and goes, but not the talent.

I would be very surprised if Williams put JV back inot their car, I think JV's very poor attitude and temperament last year did his f1 career alot of damage and as such I dont think too many people would want him in their team, as teams require a great driver and a great personality for their sponsorship committments and I dont think JV fits that mould. I could be wrong.. I cant wait until August when they announce their 2005 line up though. Webber & Raikkonen??

Would be good if Frank can poach one off Dennis for a change!!

Stranger things have happened. About his attitude, JV did the most testing of the BAR team last year and lost all his motivation after 5 years of driving unreliable and uncompetitive sh!tboxes. I find it hard to agree with you as the article i posted claimed it was Sir Frank and Patrick and Jim Wright - their marketing guy - who contacted JV, not the other way around. The fact that the marketing guy was part of this proves the value of Jacques to the sport and it would bring in $$ to the team. Why else was BAR started...so BAT could promote their product using the Villeneuve name. As for pr commitments, I agree with you there, he does need to shape up in that department. If he can do that, then he'll be the total package. JV and Webber is what I think we'll see. Like you I say bring on August!! :)

nah mate, that's more for teams like Jordan and Minardi, those looking for $$$. August is the time MW will know what's going on with his contract and thus Sir Frank will know if Mark is available or not. I'm pretty sure Mark will be at Williams. August is fast approaching, and there could be an announcement sooner, if Williams get rid of Ralf early like they want. A Villeneuve/Webber combo is looking more and more likely!!!

J.V+M.W At Williams.Well i can't see it happening as i don't think either of them would settle to be a No2 driver. You have to remember Ego's play a big part in F1 and what ever teams say there is no such thing as equal drives!!!

The No.1 requirement may be necessary at Teams that can not put out equal units like Ferrari because of Ferrari's mentalities not because the drivers want the contrived advantage , or more so to disadvantage the other driver.

M.SCHum needs that ....Williams does not go out of their way to produce that effort....as it should be.

So for Villeneuve or Webber or whom ever on Williams should be more than content with non- contrived advantage over the other driver. I know most F1 Fans would appreciate that from the set -start -go . :)

Williams isn't the team for NO1 and NO2 drivers. Both have equal status. MW and JV aren't drivers who heavily insist on being favourite. They'll have to earn it. They know what to do once in the car.

exactly. Will be good if Montagny gets a drive at Renault, that'll make things even more interesting.

A loyal, vocal and dedicated bunch who came through for our guy, well done to all of his fans, and i can tell you in all honesty, I didn't even vote, you have to register for autosport.com!! Now if I could have voted, that would have put it up to around 65 % or so
