Williams, Renault and Toyota linked with Bridgestone switch.

Recommended Posts

from planetf1.com:

Williams, Renault and Toyota are all linked with a possible switch from Michelin to Bridgestone next season.

Ferrari's Japanese tyre supplier, Bridgestone, have made an approach to all six Michelin-shod Formula One teams, also including McLaren, Jaguar and BAR.

But the (initially) aforementioned three are thought to have responded with requests for more information, according to a source in the British media.

The source said Bridgestone wants at least one carmaker-backed Michelin team to switch camps, to thus contribute to development of next year's F1 product.

New rules in 2005, requiring a Formula One tyre to have a longer life, will mean that the quality (and quantity) of winter development is even more crucial to success.

World champion team Ferrari is currently Bridgestone's only carmaker-backed partner.

Finally more competitive teams switching to Bridgestone. only two could switch, as only one tire manufacturer can supply 60% of the grid unless there is only one company.

Williams, to pick one team at random so as to save time, were on the best tyre last year and thus there was no reason to contemplate a move to their Japanese rival at that stage. I would advise caution though as it is difficult to predict which tyre manufacturer will produce the best tyre nest year. I would like to remind everyone though that, before the start of this season, I said that BAR

i thing bridgestone will go with williams because willams are the team that do the most testing behind Ferrari and well right now Bridgestone only really have two teams that can test for them so it will be who has the most money to test with.

Ah but Williams or any other team have to accept them. If they continue to make tires designed for the Ferraris then I heavily doubt any switch.
