Indian officials have confirmed they are looking into the possibility of hosting an F1 street race.

The country had initially planned to build a state-of-the-art track at Hyderabad. But these proposals were cancelled when the projected costs spiralled out of control.

The Federation of Motor Sports Club of India has not been discouraged, however, and is now investigating the possibility of holding a Monaco-style street event.

I don't know how far this will work. So many countries are trying to enter on F1 calendar and they are ready to build state of art tracks. But the advantage for India is FIA desperately wants India to conduct a Grandprix. Will wait and see...

That is what they are saying. it is not possible to fund the state of art track and if a suitable street race can be designed then our country has a lot to gain from. Also I wondered wheather they considered modifying the already existing tracks at Chennai and Coimbatore. they are small but given some more land you could have an F1 track without having to spend too much as you would for a brand new track.

Imagine only 5 years ago if someone said there may be a monaco-style gp in India, you would laugh!! Its weird how much this sport has changed in the last 5 years or so, I don't like it. Prefer the good old tracks not silly new ones in countries that don't even follow f1 much, like China and Bahrain and Turkey
