Ausie F1 Tv

Recommended Posts

Hi all

First up MERRY CHRISTMAS !!!!!!!!!!

Now it seems that Channel 10 .. a free to air TV Cannel in Australia has won the right to broadcast the F1 series for at least 2003.. Taking it away from Channel 9 that has been broadcasting F1 since it began I think....

Is this a sign of the times ??? Does Channel 9 know more then Channel 10 about F1 ratings ???.. only time will tell but Channel 10 in Oz is well into Motor racing which is good for us fans.

Yes, it does appear to be correct that 9 Nine has lost the rights to 10.

10 have said that Aussie F1 fans deserve better coverage of F1 so lets hope they come through with the goods.

Also to sweeten this news, Foxtel (Pay TV network) may also be included in the deal, with 10 allowing them to show any race live that they cant for what ever reason.

Cheers

Wes

I've been thinking about going cable as we already have a cable internet connection here in Melbourne with Optus.

Now that Foxtel are onboard can anyone tell me if they offer a better coverage on cable than is likely on free to air with Channel 10.... live would be nice but do Foxtel cover stuff like practice sessions, qualifying etc?

I just want to know if 10 are going to show it on their regional episodes as well. I am a huge fan, living in the south-western Queensland town of Charleville. receiving ABC, SBS, seven central and a mixture called Imparja ( Mix of ten and nine i think it is ) I am hoping that Imparja will still show it or i am forking out big to pick up cable, even if it is just for the races.

You arent the only ones having trouble finding anything out, we don't know yet here in the US how things will end up with our coverage! <_

well all you Aussies out there, I for ONE would not PAY to watch F1 on cable that is if the last few years performance was a benchmark.. To be honest if F1 and the Aussie GP in Melbourne is for viewing by Pay tv viewers I doubt they would make enough money to by a slab of beer. This is a big country with a lot of WIDESPREAD / COUNTRY viewers that do not have CABLE or Satelite etc If the Free to air tv coverage does not happen in OZ all I can say is Bernie has the gun and just shot himself in his foot

We here in the States will probably once again be getting our broadcast from Speed Channel, which is a pay cable channel that not everyone has, but is still widely available. A portion of the races are on broadcast TV channel ABC, which last year got fantastic ratings, so Im thinking more of the races will be on ABC this year...

To the Aussies and Kiwi's out there. Any of you have Discovery Channel, if so just to let you know that in the week leading up to the first race (March 3-7) there is a week long series called 'The Secrets of Formula One' being screened late each evening.

No word here either, but TVNZ would never even consider showing that, not even the Saturday qualifing. They just do not respect the F1 fans enough.

Thanks Nichos, didnt know that DAZ was not in OZ but then come to think of it neither am I sort of. We dont get channel 10 but have a company that broadcasts channel ten and seven programmes, guess I better shoot off an e-mail to them and see what they intend running , probably a bit of motor racing combined with horse racing, golf , Aerial Pingpong, sailing or even Darts LOL

I remember a couple of years back when Bathurst was on our channel had most of the time taken up with racing at Philip Island , bike racing that is and well for me was boring :-)

so does anyone knoiw if the F1 races will be LIVE on the net ?????

Probably not on the net anywhere, as the FIA doesn't (obviously) really like that as they make no money off it. Unless its officially sponsored, which I highly doubt exists anywhere...
