BAR - showing their hand too early?

i for one am getting more bullish by the day on BAR's chances this year. almost every day positive news comes out about the 006 or the test team's efforts.

eg today they set the fastest time for the 2nd day in a row at barcelona despite using the concept/hybrid car. albeit again in qualifying spec, it still has me excited about their chances this year.

is it all fun n games, ie do you think that they've shown their hand too early and the other top teams have enough in reserve?

or are BAR really about to step into the premier league relegation zone?

I think BAR will always be in the midfeild. They really don't have a hand to show. they'll be like always, trying to to get 6th or 7th or 8th place finishes...but mostly retire or come 9th or worse. they'll probly only come around 6th in the constructors this year.

well they've either put all their increased development budget into PR , or are making solid improvements, cos over the past couple months the general feeling i get from the f1 press is that they're going to impress. and before you all start saying "but they promised big things when they entered f1", remember they're a totally different team with totally different mangement and outlook now.

i can't see them having done anything wrong in the offseason except maybe be a little too aggressive in displaying their potential speed. i'm hoping they can fight for 4th in the CWC..

I believe the real truth will come when the races start, although the boss of Bar has promised a champion's car, miracles do not happen in F1.

yeah the only thing i'm concerned about is the engine. all the blow-ups early in testing was worrying, but they don't seem to have had too many prolems with the engine in recent days.

Slow down all you B.A.R fans i think you may be getting a bit a head of yourself. Lets see how they do in OZ first. Dave Richards and the rest of the B.A.R team sure are building themselves up for a big fall.

juan pablo topped the sheets yesterday, 1 sec slower then the bar's best times. so i'm thinking that maybe they have showed their hand too early and the other teams haven't taken the bait, yet.

well with all the PR that ALL the teams put out prior to the first race the podium will be the length of pit straight

The bulls##t stops when the flag goes down in melbourne. Just remember, prost and arrows set lap records in years where they were pathetic. I'm not saying BARf will go into the s##theap, but just wait and settle down. They were like this, although not to quite an extent last year, but suffered immensely from unreliability. As for wins and the championship, DR and Jense are seriously tripping out. When Jense talks about world titles, I think he's subconsciously thinking about a return to Williams which I think will happen. Their potential speed was for qualifying trim, not over a race distance, so we're gonna have to wait and see. Like last year, the chassis is great, its up to Honda to stop blowing up and Bridgestone to make BARf challengers.

How do we know these lap times are genuine? The BAR cars could have been run below weight with illegal components etc to gain an advantage and impress prospective sponsors – we already know they were running with VERY light fuel tanks. BAR doing well will also convince the rest of the paddock that Richards decision to get rid of Jacques has not undermined the performance of the team, quite the contrary (Of course he’s wrong and the money he’s saved on Jacques salary will only help a little bit to pay for the damage Sato is about to cause).

It doesn’t matter what tyres you’ve got on your car, Sato will still crash the thing. BAR are not unaccustomed to making grandiose statements about `next years car` but they haven’t realised that to compete with Renault (You can forget the big three right now…. let it go Richards) they need TWO drivers not one. While Button MIGHT be able to race with the Renaults Sato, who seems to be regularly 3 tenths down on Jenson in testing, will not be able to and thus BAR do not stand a chance of finishing fourth.

A very valid point, but I think BAR will be able to get Jenson on the podium at least once or twice this season if things go right. I won't speculate based on testing and lap records, but this is the first year in which Geoff Willis has had an impact on the new car right from the start. But we will see when Australia comes, only a month off!
