i'd have to say no on this one, purely cos he only really lets the $ do the talking.. admirable in a business sense, but i think the bottom-line rules formula 1 too much and bernie's definitely the man to blame.

How is Bernie to blame for that. Bernie did not tell McLaren to spend millions on a berillium engine, Ferrari to develop a tiny gearbox or Renault for develop a wide angle engine. Then abandon it, so they now have to develop a replacement.

I know I keep saying this but I feel that it’s an important topic, which needs addressing.

There should be numerous changes to increase the spectacle and popularity of F1:

1. Technical changes on the cars to make overtaking much easier.

2. A ban on all forms of electronic driver aids.

3. A return to slick tyres.

4. A return to last year’s qualifying session format.

5. An `overtaking button` made standard on each car that gives more revs for a short burst (can only be used for a little while…like the rule in CART).

6. A limit of one GP per country.

7. Scrap the `new team start-up fee` to encourage new entrants.

8. Reduce and set a limit on private testing to reduce costs.

9. Ensure the provision of affordable re-badged customer engines.

10. An extended calendar to include more new venues but not reduce historical European venues (point 6 would make room for new venues).

11. A revision of the points structure so as to extend the system to the top 10 finishers so that non-Ferrari, Williams, Renault, McLaren and BAR cars can genuinely fight for points finishes. Also award a point for pole position.

12. Improve the quality of televised F1 by providing more cameras at the tracks and stop broadcasters focusing unnecessarily on drivers form their country.

i never implied that.

its too open-ended an issue so i cant reply in great detail without leaving things out, but i just menat that maybe he could lead a more positive example and save some of the traditions of formaula 1.

when the man at the top is a money-grabber of the highest order, it sets the example of those that follow. he could intervene on a whole variety of issues, and avoided many of the current issues in the first place on formation of the concord agreement. he is and has been happy with the status quo, cos he's rakin in billions.

Aren't the FIA, and the technical working group responsible for such technological demands and start up fees etc!! If I'm correct, Bernie is responsible for the commercial side of things such as locations of GP's etc, and not technological, such as aero, tyres etc.

Bernie has only very limited control of the issues raised. He is one of a number of people that vote on these issues. 1 rep from each team, 2 representing the engine suppliers, 2 representing the circuits, 1 representing the tyre suppliers, Bernie for FOCA (NOT the FIA) and Max for the FIA. That is 18 and I may have missed one or two.

The exception being the 2 issues I have quoted above. He can and should remedy these promptly.

He has significant power, but some people think he is bigger than he is!
