As both a driver and a personality, with a very dry sense of humour, I think he's a good chap. Can't quite see the point of the thread though. Doesn't everyone like Mika?

I respect him. He knows how to win races in a good car, but had concentration lapses. Monza and Imola 99', Spa 2000.

I have some degree of respect for him as a driver, but like him? no way. he's fortunate to have won 2 more championships than he deserved to.

True, true. Imola and Monza '99 and Spa '00 are examples of lapses by Mika.

This is a daft topic as everyone likes Mika Hakkinen!  How could you not?

Yes it’s good to see Mika racing in a fairly competitive series as it is to see Prost and Mansell race in one-off events.

Clearly it was.  Obviously everyone does not like Mika Hakkinen I was simply making a jovial comment intended to highlight Mika’s extensive popularity, I did not intend my words to be literally true, clearly not.

Well, I can't really think of a reason not to like Mika, he's a pretty cool guy, he is afterall a double world champion. I too am pretty pleased to see him racing again, I thought that he had retired for good.

Regardless of his deserved success, he is still (or seems to be) an eminently likeable cove. It's good to see him still enjoying his racing.

Let's put this one to bed. We've gone round in circles for long enough. The thread might have well been titled "who likes cheese" for all the insight it provided (no offence Mika the Great). By the way, who likes cheese................

In 1958 Fangio decided to retire. His explanation for that was unique:

Fangio: "I came to test my car and after a few laps struggling with my `cache` I asked to my engineer: What did you change in the car?"
The engineer: "the shock absorbers. Why? They pay us to use..."
Fangio: "..so I realize that my time was come. I was the one that were in danger at the track, how could they change anything without asking me before? That was not the sport I like...besides that I'm too old...".
He was 47 and very quick yet...

I voted no, because he was very often complaining about why he didn't do better or win by more.  I kno all drivers do it but none as much as Mika, although JPM is trying.
