WRC car doors open as normal car doors, little less risky than what you've described in NASCAR!

Sadly I think most decent people in that situation would feel at least some self-blaming and self-doubt. It would take a hell of a long time to fully recover from the sheer shock of something like that, but I hope he doesn't quit because of this tragic event.
