I started off as a young boy loving all things Ford mainly because of the influence of my father, then as I grew older I became disillusioned with Ford and started my love affair with HSV which resulted in me buying my HSV that I still own to this day. At the moment I’m sort of sitting on the fence in regards to both Ford and Holden which is probably from working within the car industry. But I must say when it all boils down I still have a soft spot for Ford.

That is very unusal. 99% of v8 Supercar fans are either very pro Ford or very Pro Holden. The closest thing Australia has ever had to a civil war was betwen the Holden fans vs Ford fans

I guess working within the car industry and having a job like mine which involves all manufactures, your Ford man or Holden man, Australian instincts become numbed somewhat

Blog response from Murray Walker
Dear Mike, Ever since I returned to England from this year`s superb Clipsal 500 I have been following your blog about the future of the proposed Victoria Park developments with intense interest.
I`m not a South Australian, I`m not an Adelaidean and I`m not even an Australian but, as someone with a passionate interest in Motor Sport who regards Adelaide as the nicest city in Australia and who rightly regards the Clipsal 500 as the finest Touring Car event in the world, bar none, I do have a very real interest in the subject. To me it is tragic that, from the point of view of what I understand to be the majority, the very real improvements that are proposed to Victoria Park and which would result in less annual disruption, the enhancement of the park itself and vastly improved facitlities for both the horse and car racing events have been blocked by a powerful minority but history shows that there`s nothing new about that. To someone who is, literally, a foreign outsider that minority can say it is none of my business but I respectfully submit that it is very much in the interest of Adelaide and South Australia for the proposed changes to be made. They would undoutedly create an even nicer environment for the majority of Adelaide`s inhabitants and even better sporting events to boost tourism, the City and the State. Life being what it is there`s only one way for that to happen. It`s called Democracy. The majority have to mobilise their strength and make enough fuss to overcome the minority. I not only hope they do but that I shall have the pleasure of returning to your fine city in 2008 with the knowledge that the majority has prevailed. Optimistically yours Murray Walker

So it appears Murray Walker is a fan of the V8 Supercars and more specifically the Adelaide circuit
Edit: Incase anyone doesnt know Victoria Park is in Adelaide and should not be confused with Victoria the state.

Isn't there some sort of salary cap or expenditure rules for the teams right now? If they go more global, will those caps remain in place? I think probably not and you'll start to see some things change as a result. More driver decisions based on public appeal than talent perhaps? Sponsorship playing a bigger role? How likely is all this, do you think?

All the drivers have a salary cap of about 2 million (i think) and testing is extremely limited due to strick rules which lower the costs involved significantly. The V8 Supercars have been going overseas to quite afew countries in recent years and it hasnt changed them so far. The V8 Supercars have been pushing into the middle east in recent years with races at Bahrain. There have been rumours of the V8 Supercars having 1 round in America but this seems extremely doubtful as NASCAR wouldnt allow a rival series into their country. I dont expect much to change in the general rules of the V8 Supercars for many years which i consider a good thing. What i was refering to in my previous post was the television coverage in the middle east and America improving so both Ford and GM can show their products racing so people in those countries will consider buying their cars.

It's not a rival series. NASCAR has such a strong fan-base that follows oval-only racing that V8s would not be a serious challenge. The problem would be getting decent TV coverage. They would probably end up on Speed and we'd get the full race instead of a highlights package.

I'll be watching the race from the "The Chase" (inside the track) like we did last year.
We move around the track for all the other sessions. I'll be up at Skyline for Qualy.

If i were going i would go for Forest Elbow as i always loved that section of the track. Though i would also give serious consideration for parking myself next too The Esses

Forest Elbow is good, I watched some of the qualy from there last year, but it has two problems with being there for the race, one you have no TV so you are clueless as to whats happening in the race and on other parts of the track and two its one hell of a long & dangerous walk with the esky fully loaded from the top of the mountain where the bus drops you off because it is so steep and you are walking through bush tracks. I took a heap of beers with me for qualy but the buggers where warm by the time I got to the last couple!!!
Watching the Esses has the same problems and you can't really see the track that well because of trees and how the land is around that part of the mountain.
