From Autosport.com:

Ferrari could quit F1

Di Montezemolo says team could be out of the sport by 2008

Could scenes like this really be on the way out?

Ferrari could pull out of Formula 1 at the end of 2007, the company's president Luca di Montezemolo has revealed while speaking exclusively to Autosport magazine.

Di Montezemolo now believes that there is no chance of a manufacturers' breakaway series happening and that the manufacturer teams now have two possible decisions - to commit to F1 or quit.

"What is for sure is that after the end of 2007 we are free," he said, "we have no deal with anybody. After that everybody can do whatever they want."

After the end of 2007 we are free

Luca di Montezemolo

When asked whether stopping F1 was an option for Ferrari, di Montezemolo replied: "Yes, why not? This could be one idea."

They are dominating F1 now. Why quit? They are, after all, kicking everybody's a## every week, so I don't see y they should quit.

Ferrari will slump when Schumi, Brawn and Byrne leave.

Schumi retiring will be the catalyst.

Montezemelo knows full well that Ferrari F1 will be second rate from then on. Better to quit before that happens, before the sport becomes ridiculously expensive and/or before Moseley ruins it irreperably.

Like Peter Windsor said in the October edition of F1 Mag, When everybody leaves, Ferrari will be re-born. New people and new ideas. Who knows what will happen.

I too doubt that Schumacher’s retirement will hurt Ferrari; after all they might be able to get a quick driver and one that doesn’t crack under intense pressure…

Imagine Montoya with Ferrari , OMG what a combination that would be .

The team would be telling him not to go over 15,000RPM , hed go to redline 19,000 get it back to the garage and tell them the pedal got stuck and it wasnt him .

As much as i dont like them , who am i kidding , as much as i hate Ferrari ( not inc Rubins cause hes a legend ) they are Formula 1 and will never back out , its not like they cant afford to keep it going .

as I see it IF Ferrari left F1, I doubt it would effect their ON ROAD car sales too much as the "Prancing Horse" is almost written in stone for providing the type of car the Millionaires Crave for. So what if they are not in F1 the car sales would still be as high as now !!!

Is McLaren selling heaps more ROAD cars then Ferrari ? I doubt it and I doubt it's because of the Ferrari Dominance in F1 , it's just that Ferrari have " THE NAME" for high performance road cars

Excellent point Rodders and true but i think they just have a reputation and an obligation to their fans to keep going ( which is not me by the way ) so Ferrari wont quit .

There’s no way Ferrari will quit because of these regulation changes…

Well, according to f1central.net, Ferrari may have been the main instigators behind these changes, and may have been responsible for some of them. And who said the FIA and FIAerrari weren't sleeping together

There is about as much chance of Ferrari pulling out of F1 as there is of the US pulling out of Iraq .i.e. none.

Yea sure, theyll huff and puff, of course they wanna keep the ball. But bottom line is where are they gonna go, and who are they going to compete with.

No, Max's plan is the only plan in town.. and the redsers will just have to toe the line.

Ferrari wont have a choice. Try and look beyond the narrow confines of F1. Where does all the MONEY come from.

The Fiat Conglomerate is losing money hand over fist. There are plans in place to take the group to market in a major capital raising.

Would YOU invest in a company that is currently losing barrow loads of money in it's core business but continues to p**s a $1 billion a year up against the wall in a folly like F1. ( .....and don't give me that old crock about "marketing message", Yuppies will buy Ferraris whether they are in F1 or not).

No, thought not.

If they are to have any chance of success in the float, Ferrari will have to withdraw from F1 because it doesn't make any financial sense to be there.

(The other manufacturers will probably follow suit over the next 3 / 5 years)

ok now i dont know about you but a ferrari road car is about as much as a 3 bedroom house (i think) and i dont see no yippes driving them around i only see right posh people (thant arnt Yeppies) and tanky guys that have to much spere time. and the only motorsport that Ferrari are in in F1 thay hove nonthing to fall back on. so why whould thay leave F1 and since when has Ferrari eaver not had enouf money to Not be in the top 3

Ferrari could leave F1 for all I care , cause they are more meddlers in every area than supporters.

They tear down values instead of putting up true F1 values.

I think many F1 fans are beginning to see that Ferrari's routine (m.o) is us /me/I 1st and not in any particular order and they care not whom they step on to do it.

I believe their reliability is the highest achievement they can put up without any insultuious notions against anyone else at any time...anywhere.

Although there is a huge thing called RACING that goes 2nd or even lower on their list of priorites, and F1 is suppose to have that type of stuff for us F1 fans to watch. We need to be patient in waiting for the Speed (racing) :?

I honestly cant stand Ferrari in fact they make me sick and so do 95% of their one eyed fans but it is upseting me also with all these comments being thrown around bout them that they should leave , they are no good for the sport , they must be handicapt etc .

Its a good phase their going through for these few years and it will have to change soon . Teams dominate over time for a few seasons and just because Ferrari are going a bit over the few seasons does p**s me off to the s##thouse but its got to come to an end soon so just bear with it .

Would non Ferrari fans rather put up and bear with it or have to listen to " Ferrari were so good that they had to be suspended from racing , or handicapt so that others could catch up or A reverse grid came about cause Ferrari kept getting pole " .

Id rather go a few years putting up with their domination than having this line go in a book for those 95% of one eyed fans to fall back on for any F1 conversaton . Also , if you are a Ferrari nut and everything goes back to Shuey as your God and the man cant do wrong , you are the people im talking about .

They s##t me to tears but its just F1 , put up with it .

agree with you there mclaren!! I can't see Ferrari leaving. This threat is more of a temper tantrum rather than a serious threat really. The day Ferrari leaves F1 will be the beginning of the end for F1 in all honesty.
