well it is true i see at least 10 or so ferrari's etc every day, and I see those Bentley GT things all the bloody time, they are almost as common as bloody Taxi's!!!

if you like supercars, Dubai is the place to spot them, plus, like i did a couple of weeks ago, you can literally go into a ferrari garage and sit in them, and chat away to the dealers acting like your a millionaire! It's fab! No one judges you which is nice as theres no snobbery, unlike in the UK where you would be frowned out of a ferrari garage, like you are frowned out of designer shops in London if your not dressed head to toe in Gucci, here you walk in and they come over, offer you help and service etc! Saying that, I did go into Dolce&Gabbana and spent a little too much on a shirt and jeans a couple of weeks ago!

Dubai is a great place. I ahve been there a few times but it's a city of excesses. and IMO a waste. I feel building a 18 hole golf course, Water theme park (Wild Wadi) all just to prove that you can build these things with oil money, i feel is a waste. Very soon the water will dry up and i really don't think that it is sustainable (i.e. ccharges on tickets and golf fees will cover it) The reason the Indian workers are taken notice of, is that you maybe right they get better conidtions than they would have gotten in India, BUT the main problem is that they were lied to about wages what job to do and what they will get. Quite a few of their owners, have control of their passport, so they can't return back to India...

And about your bubble of being away from Death and destruction. The main leaders of the Bombay Underworld reside in Dubai. This is a open secret known to all, but they are protected my the Shiekhs so thus are not given back to India. These are the same guys in Collaberation with ISI, LeT and Al-Qeida, have attacks like the recent Shootouts in Bombay (just finished 8hours ago) and will continue to plan and cause chaos in the world. Did you know for the Bombay attacks, kids aged 21-25 were used. Looking at their faces were a disturbing sight, to see such young children with AK 47's. They claim to be trained in Pakistan and then came to Bombay by boats..

Anyways, Hope everyone from our forum and their families are safe from this terror attack...

I agree with both Ben and Ankit.

But the whole world is hypocritical. Dubai has strict rules when it comes to many things, but if you know the place you can do (bad) things in a better way than anywhere else, I don't want to go too much into politics.

I am disturbed by what happened in Mumbai. I quite can't belive that the guys who did it wanted an adventure out of it by killing hundreds of innocent people. I read that the guys belived they would all walk out alive after the killing spree. The reason behind this attack is pure jelousy. Just because their country is in s##t they want India too be burried in it. With the only suspect who has been caught, I hope the Indian Police do what they are best known to do to the suspects, Torture! I got an unconfirmed news that my friend's newly wed brother in law is fighting for his life. I hope he recovers fast, and I hope nothing like this ever happen anywhere else in the world.

Mumbai will recover, its a city that has faced death and destruction in many forms and yet rose back in no time.

Ok then, so what makes you all hate Dubai then? I'm intrigued to know the reasons other than it having (rightfully) harsh discipline for criminals, and migrant Indian construction workers living in poor conditions (which are in fact better than what they have in their home countries) and are treated like s##t?!

Oh and by the way, 5% of Dubai's wealth comes from oil. Abu Dhabi is the emirate which has massive oil reserves, Dubai has never had much oil!

I know people who have been to Dubai and been treated like s##t, infact they do lead better life in India than in Dubai, with the money they earn in India they could well lead a normal life. Atleast 18 of them don't need to squeeze into one tiny room with only one bathroom. Infact the very building in which you are living must have been built with an Indian's sweat. Almost the whole of Dubai was built by Indian workers, contractors and Engineers and deserves a little more respect.

I havn't yet come to Dubai but I have more friends and relatives living there than the amount of people whom you know there, trust me, I really do.

I know how wonderful life can be, but try to be a bit gayish on public, you will miss your home.

Yes, but the government has brought in strict rules that passports are not to be kept, it is now a criminal offence, and I think you will find the problem is that it is not Dubai, and the Dubai companies, but the contractors treating their employees like s##t, but the gov and companies like Nakheel and Emaar could do much more to protect the rights of the Indian migrant workers.

Oh and yes my building was indeed built using Indian sweat, and a very s##t job they do! They may be fast at erecting buildings but the build quality is p**s poor!

This is a high quality building, it's owned and managed by Emirates and one of the Sheikhs cousins or something like that, but against the rest of Dubai Marina, and Jumeirah Lake Towers, the tower block i live in is classed as being the best quality, and best finish... which says it all! Villas that are going for well over

You could well become a construction worker and show how its built...can you? Just because a building is built in a poor way, you shouldn't blindly blame the workers or contractors. The owner has to take the blame because he is the one who decides to give the contract to a construction company based on budgets. If you building is falling apart, call your owner, not the poor workers who built it the way they were instructed to build them.

So they are told to build walls wonky? Ive been sat watching them build the tower opposite and they cant even lay bricks straight... so yes it is the construction workers fault for being s##t! My building isnt falling apart, the fixtures and fittings have just been fitted carelessly!

You like me must have better things to do than take the bait from a spoilt brat. Russ is right about bubbles, it's not a literal bubble, it's in your mind, it's about what you manage to screen out, more about creating your own reality in your mind.

PS: Ben, the person who is paid a thousand times more than the workers is a thousand times more responsible for how the building turns out. Go work 100 hour weeks and live in a s##thole, and we'll see how well you do your job if you have one that is.

:D For sometime I really ran out of job, after I had a busy weekend. I checked in back to forum to look for something :D . Now I am busy though, wouldn't bother to reply or read his posts anymore as I know that some part of his body is always burried in a s##thole anyways.

Funny how you blame contractors for treating the employees s##t, but the employees for building bad thing for contractors... Seems like you think being treated badly will lead to better motivated workers...

Btw you still haven't replied to my earlier post...
