Electric cars are great! Mine was an Aurora AFX set (circa 1970s) and I loved it! It wasn't the cheap, easy set that came later in the 80s, this was the set that you needed throttle control to get your car around the bendy bits.

I've still got mine somewhere. Much battle scarred. Scalextric was just too big and unwieldy even it it had more....purity.

Apropos electric cars, though, I can see their popularity rising fast, especially if they're like this:

Yes, we discused about this car during the meeting with a very well respected professor.

If this car does go well as they said, it could revolutionize the whole of Electric car market.

What I would like to see from this car is how it can negotiate corners with electric motors mounted in each wheels increasing the unsprung weight..

Something that Tesla avoided using because of such issues....I am sure they know what they are doing, but I am really interested to know how they solved that issue.

I am not a green guy or someone who would drive a Prius to convince others that I am concerned about Eco stuff....we don't know how much is true or lies...

What I am concerned however is the fact oil is not going to stay forever....we need to look at alternatives.....and with the kind of progress we have witnessed in the auto industry, it does look that some people are trying very hard indeed to develop an alternative...I am pleased to see their determination despite many limitations for now...only if we can put an effort now to improve and keep developing these alternatives, we can avoid facing a time when we would all be stuck after we run out of oil...we need to be ready for such times...we need to save oil for other things like aviation, public transportation, shipping industry, for the exotic cars etc etc.....but unfortunately for now we dont really see an electric car that we can afford, even though there are few of them who do perform well....they are not in a form of our needs....

Seriously, I would like to see a dependable self-recharging electric motor used for most vehicles. Exceptions would be anything with 10 or more cylinders. The thought of killing the near-orgasmic sound of the Lambos and Ferraris out there is just criminal. I'd rather beat a baby seal to death with my mother's fake arm than kill a Lambo.

Mitsubishi has expressed serious interest in FIA president Jean Todt's proposed electric F1 series. The idea is in its infancy, and there is long way to go before silent F1 cars are zipping around the world's best racing circuits, but interest from the brand gives the idea a bit of a boost.

Over the last two years, Mitsubishi has significantly reduced its motorsports participation, beginning with its withdrawal from the 2009 Dakar Rally. That, coupled with the recent controversy surrounding the future of the Lancer Evolution, has elicited criticism that the Mitsubishi is moving in an anti-motorsports direction.

Company brass say that isn't true. Mitsubishi claims it's very interested in electric-vehicle racing as a way to speed up EV technology development and make advancements in its future road vehicles. Still, we'd wager it'll be years before an electric Evo hits the streets.

Big congratulations go to the 2011 Nissan Leaf this morning, as it has just been named the 2011 World Car of the Year. The Leaf garnered more votes than the 2011 Audi A8 and 2011 BMW 5 Series, the other two finalists for the World Car title. In 2010, the Volkswagen Polo took home this award.

The Leaf was not the only super-efficient car to be awarded today, as the 2011 Chevrolet Volt was named Green Car of the Year. Oddly, the Volt was named 2011 North American Car of the Year, while the Leaf was merely a runner-up.

In the less-efficient realm of the industry, the 2011 Ferrari 458 Italia was named World Performance Car of the Year, and the sleek 2011 Aston Martin Rapide was given the World Design of the Year crown.

Got me thinking; in an electric car future how will the chavs pimp their cars? With the usual 10 megadecibel sub woofer and car wrapped in neon tubes it will only have a range of about 400 yards....
