Briatore Backs Jacques To Deliver

Flavio Briatore, JV’s new, temporary boss, has backed the 1997 World Champion to drive Renault to second place in this year's Constructors’ Championship.

Although there is as yet no official confirmation, Briatore told the Italian media that Jacques would drive the R24 in the remaining three races of the season.

Describing the situation as the "perfect chance" for Jacques to demonstrate that he hasn’t lost any of his famed speed, Briatore was adamant that Jacques could lift the team above BAR to claim second place in the Constructors' Championship.

"He can also help us with the Constructors' Championship," Briatore told the Italian media. "He is fit and resolute. I think he will get up to speed quickly."

Having taken 79 points up to and including the French Grand Prix, Renault have struggled of late, earning just a meagre 12 points in the last five events, and none at all at both the Belgium and Italian Grands Prix. They currently trail BAR by three points, with Williams fourth on 60 points.

Believe you me, Jacques can win in China. When it comes to the crunch and a team is in need of a fast and reliable driver, they turn to Jacques. I know I know, Fisi was first choice, but since hes going there next year, that's a no brainer, but after he wasnt released, straight to Jacques. Flav's prophetic words from last year "You never know, we might see Jacques in a Renault" I know these circumstances weren't foreseen, but he got it right!!

We saw it for a few laps at Silverstone in 2003 but of course MS had the huge advantage of being in a Ferrari with JV being in a comparatively weak BAR. Now JV will be in a Renault and has a good chance of doing well

I only wonder what Bob Varsha and the other commentators will say during the practice and qualifying and race at Shanghai about JV's return. Either way, BAR only came on after JV left. Remember that JV was with BAR from 99-Indy 03. He was the constant there.

I wouldn't be holding my breath on anything positive being said about JV on Speed. Windsor and Hobbes are notorious JV bashers and take any chance they can to put JV down. Windsor does it heaps in F1 Racing and I hope JV makes the podium, or heck I'll say it, wins the race just so the fans can see what Windsor says to Jacques.

As for BAR coming on.. two words, Geoff Willis!!! Put the '03 car on Michelins and JV or JB - I like to think it would have been JV, but that's my biased point of view :wink: - would have won a race for sure.

Re. JV v. M$ there were a few battles when JV was at BAR. I remember Spain '99, Silverstone '00 and as Senna says, Silverstone '03. Like it or not, JV is the hardest driver M$ tries to pass, just look how long it took him to pass JV last year in the UK, and even in the previous two I mentioned. In those he had to wait for the pitstops, when they happened about lap 20 or so!!!

Not to mention his cheeky starts, remember 2000, espcially in Canada, France etc.. etc.. there were so many of them to elaborate. But JV had a train of cars following him usually.

I suspect that we will see the best JV - MS duels in the remaining three races since those from 1997. The Renault, although obviously slower than the Ferrari, is still a very good car and will give JV a good opportunity to shine, especially at the start of GPs.

But let us not raise our hopes too high that JV will lead MS in China. i would give him a race to settle down to the R24. Maybe in Brazil, we can hope for a fight.

I talk with ppl on the jv-world messageboard from the US, and that's what they say, and I believe them, especially about Windsor after reading some of his rubbish in F1 Racing.

JV is returning to race in F1. He is a good driver and I hope he does well, I hope he does well enough to be in a great car for next season.

I would like him to be one of the drivers to challenge for the title, if he is then the sport will improve. I don't want Raikkonen to win the championship he doesn't deserve to win he's not good enough
