The Hype Thread

Recommended Posts

There seems to be a lot of hype about the drivers...Sometimes over hyped, under rated and no rating at all.

1, Motonya was hyped as the guy that will overthrow Michael..4 years on MS has scores of wins while JPM has only 4 wins.

Motonya has been driving a bmw- williams car a top car by my own observation a GP winning car all his career so should have rung out more wins as he's the 2nd coming.

2, Ralf...What can you say here..Under-rated cos of his big brother..Has put in outstanding races in his Jordan races and should have been the one to win the race that Damon Hill won but kept quite about it.

3, Michael Schumacher is soooooo over rated  Ok that's a flimsy joke.

4, Trulli trully Alonso up this year till He stupidly asked for a change of management while negotiating his contract with said manager and team boss.

5, Jenson is now the attaboy cos the others were useless in their car construction department.

6, Mark Webber is a great driver cos he put a Minardi in 5th..So far the mosty outstanding thing so far....Oh that's noy fair of me..He did qualify 3rd place in Japan but lost it before the race has even started.

What's your view?

Well this could just go on forever cos everyones got their own favourites. I personally think Webber is over-rated because he hasn't really done anything. Melbourne 2002 was very lucky, he's done nothing since. He's got the right attitude/work-ethic, but thats it. Michael Schumacher is not over-rated, he couldn't possibly prove anything more, he may have done some controversial stuff down the years but he's the best (I hate him, don't get me wrong)

Those are all the hypes and mis hypes that I have heard..Moreover I am not a fan of drivers OR Teams but rather of F1.

Nearly every driver gets over-hyped when they first arrive, then after a while it disappears and they're a has-been. Button & Montoya both had massive hype in Britain, don't know about other countries, and after a year or so a lot of people changed their mind, cos new drivers come along with all the hype, like Kimi & Alonso

alright you've sold him very short there.

1. Was the Minardi 5th, not that great considering most of the feild retired, but he did have problems with the car and didn't make mistkaes, so for a debut it was not bad.

2. Quite a few good qualifying sessions. Imola 03 (4th or 5th i think), Hungary 03(3rd), malaysia 04 (2nd), hungary 04 (not sure but i think 3rd or 4th) Japan in those bad conditions like you said.

3. Scoring a fair amount of points over his 2 years in a underperforming Jaguar. Races like france 03 when he kept just seconds behind the Reno's for alot of the race, races where he has used a 2 stopper to grab a point or 2.

Proved nothing my arse, he's proved he can drive a car to points, that on ocasion shouldn't be a position to do so.

Sure we don't know yet if he'll be a very good performer at williams winning races or championships but you can't say he has proved nothing as alot of people have late 04/early 05.

He's only really been impressive in qualifying, and even thats not consistent. The reason I say he's not proved much is because his team-mates have been almost pathetic (by f1 standards). Pizzonia, Yoong & Klien do not belong in f1. Heidfeld, however, has shown himself to be fast by beating higher profile team-mates such as Alesi, Raikkonen & Frentzen. If Webber is better than Nick this year, my opinion will change

Note my signature....That's all that matters..The race..F1 pays out only on race results and not on qualifying.

Just on Webber, his best place was 6th when the car was half good. Irvine got the Jag onto the podium twice, in Monaco in 2001 and Monza 2002 when the car was a dog. Webber has been quick in quali but he's done very little in race situations, although Monaco and France 2002 were good. In the Jag he started from high positions then just slid backwards, Hungary 2003 for example. If you compare MW's performances with those of Irvine (the lead driver at Jag before MW), then Irv's performances were better in races, he got 3rds and under whilst MW's best is a 6th, most of his points came from 7th and 8th places. The fact he has had teammates who shouldn't be legally allowed next to an F1 car, let alone in one (Wilson, and probably Klein to a point are exceptions IMO) doesn't help him, but if he fares well against Nick, then his stocks will rise, but until he faces someone of the calibre of Michael, Fernando, Kimi etc he'll always have his doubters.

although it may be an untrustworthy source, sine Mark apparently managed to qualify not only 23rd in 2002, but 38th aswell in USA. I'll check some other source incase i was right after all.

Achievements:

2005 Formula One - Joins the BMW Williams-F1 team.

2004 Formula One - second season with Jaguar. Tough year though, yields only seven points. Best finish: Sixth at the German GP. 13th in drivers' championship.

2003 Joins Jaguar Racing to contest second F1 season. Fantastic year, scores 17 points, notching up three sixth place finishes [Europe, France and Hungary] and four seventh place finishes [spain, Austria, Canada and Italy]. Out performs both team-mates - Antonio Pizzonia and Justin Wilson, establishes himself as #1 at 'the Cat', and in short makes a name for himself.

2002 Makes F1 debut with the KL Minardi Asiatech team to become the first Australian race driver in F1 since David Brabham in 1994. Finishes an excellent fifth in his first race in Australia, scoring his - and Minardi's - only points of 2002.

Your stats do not convince me at all. DC has great stats, do you think he's an amazing driver? Didn't think so! Like I say, my opinion will change if he beats Heidfeld. Until then, I'm afraid I still think he's over-rated. Sure he scored 17 points in 2003, but what if he had a team-mate like Fisichella (for example) who may have scored a lot more, we don't know if Webber is that good yet. First Aussie since D Brabham just shows that Aussies aren't great at f1, doesn't mean Webber is any good!!

History will still treat him better than your JB, I guarantee you MW will have a much better season than JB. I also hope JB joins him in 06 so that we can then compare with equal equipment at their disposal.

Sato, it was a joke, I have nothing against aussies. No need to bring JB into this!! JB has beaten Trulli & Villeneuve, both top drivers. Webber hasn't beaten anyone good yet, but he has a chance to next year. I would have liked JB & MW to be at williams together aswell, so did they, my opinion is that JB would have had the upper hand, would've been more difficult to beat than Sato though.

don't you mean ksajoe?!!?

I personnally dnt wanna judge MW because he has never had a good car or decent teamate to compare to.

No I mean Sato, cos he said "That was an undeducated reply about aussies", which just makes me think he has no sense of humour! I won't judge Webber either, but soon he'll be compared to a decent team-mate and all shall be revealed

Its not that i don't have a sense of humour, its that you aren't a very good comedian.

Hey I'll have you know I'm hilarious! But you've got to admit, the fact that before Mark Webber no Aussie had scored a point since D Brabham, does kind of show that lately australia hasn't been too great with f1 drivers, thats fair

I never said that wasn't true, i was just implying your assuming all Aussies are bad at F1 because of it.
