MONTOYA'S LAST MINUTE STUNNER

(ITV)

Juan Pablo Montoya waited until the dying moments of the first hour of free practice at Monaco to show his intentions for the weekend ahead.

His 1m17.152s lap, set as he crossed the line to take the chequered flag, was 0.149s faster than world championship leader Fernando Alonso, who had topped the times for much of the session.

In a reverse of the norm, race drivers filled four of the top five positions with only Red Bull's test driver Christian Klien breaking the pattern with his third quickest time.

Michael Schumacher was fourth quickest ahead of Giancarlo Fisichella fifth.

01 Montoya McLaren 1:17.152

02 Alonso Renault 1:17.301

03 Klien Red Bull 1:17.511

04 M Schumacher Ferrari 1:17.640

05 Fisichella Renault 1:17.869

06 Wurz McLaren 1:18.059

07 Webber Williams 1:18.244

08 R Schumacher Toyota 1:18.482

09 Coulthard Red Bull 1:18.669

10 Barrichello Ferrari 1:18.838

11 Heidfeld Williams 1:18.859

Good on him, but he can't just sit there thinking that'll do ;)

Webber was looking good, and deffinatley could of went faster a few times but didn't (for reasons unknown to me).

MS it seemed was always pushing as far as i can tell (probly wrong sine im only watching the timing on formula1.com.)
