JORDAN PLANS REVISED CAR FOR MONZA

Jordan is expected to press its revised EJ15B into service at the next round of the Formula 1 world championship - the Italian Grand Prix at Monza - after delaying its debut for months.

The team plans to run the car in this week's huge test at the Italian venue before greenlighting the Toyota-powered car for race action.

"We hope to close the gap to the other teams," Narain Karthikeyan told Reuters.

"We've had problems with cooling and stuff but the car is very compact, very nicely done.

"Touch wood, if we don't have any problems we will race it at Monza."

Karthikeyan and his team-mate Tiago Monteiro were outpaced by their closest rivals Minardi in the Turkish Grand Prix and Jordan is hoping that the new car will vault them off the bottom of the pile.

"We expect (an improvement of) seven 10ths (of a second) out of it," said Karthikeyan.

"If we have one second we will be really happy."

:lol::huh::mellow:

Now Karthikeyan should be a regular top 10 finisher on merit if he is to be believed. I have my doubts!

Yeah the might go 7 tenths faster, but they will only go about 10% as far :P

They have had cooling issues with it and that's why it hasn't been used up until now, I reckon we will se a double retirement at monza.

It would be a shame if Monterio was to retire now considering his perfect record hitherto, which is also a record in F1 history.

It's also a record that says alot about his driving ability. Midfield/Backmarker/Slow driver who just cruises to the finish. What does he have to his name?

Porsche Carrera Cup Champion and Rookie of the Year in 1997...

any guesses as to how much Sh#tter the 05 version will be from the current version? Jordan are going down a very steep hill in a car with no breaks....

I don't think Jordan will close the gap to the other constructors very quickly as it always takes time for a team basically starting from scratch to get up into the mid-field battle let alone the top. It took BAR 4 years to get anywhere near it although they were always quicker than Minardi. Minardi who bought out Arrows thought that they could build on the Arrow's teams ideas to go faster but it hasn't looked like working yet. I think Jordan and Minardi will find themselves in the same sort of situation in regards to manufacture's positions next year. Jordan need to do a lot of work to get themselves out of there.

The only way they could close the gap would be longer cars, not more compact. Longer cars would put them closer to the front runners..... :D

As far as their cooling problems, at least we know what Karthikeyan's problem is on this one, gravel and grass in his air ducts....

seven 10ths.... of what a mile, could not mean seconds, not even off a cliff!!! :D

Got to give them credit for the positive outlook, "E" for effort as they say.

Nonsense, it is quite impressive and the Portugese has added a podium to it.

ah the first time we speak of indy without th word farce attached. what is a bigger farce, the ferraris finishing 3-4 places ahead of where they would have been with a full grid or monteiro finishing a full 14 places ahead?

finishing is pointless any team can do that. its being reliable while being competitive, reliable while pushing the envelope of the car and the driver pushing to his limits that is a worthy acheivement.

We have discussed indygate extensively in the past. Monterio beat his team-mate and both Minardi drivers so he thoroughly deserves his podium in that situation; obviously it was far from the ideal situation
