Montoya Sets Pace At Monza

Recommended Posts

For the second day running Juan Pablo Montoya was the man to beat at the Monza circuit, the McLaren racer once again beating the unofficial track record with a best time of 1:19.813 after a total of 120 laps. Montoya was almost three tenths ahead of his nearest challenger, teammate Kimi Raikkonen and over four tenths faster than current points leader, Renault driver Fernando Alonso in third.

1. J.P Montoya

This just demonstates how dominate McLaren would and should be this season. It is a shame we haven't seen a 1-2 from the guys yet but Monza is looking very strong for that to happen.

McLaren clearly have the fastest car but it is not always reliable. We should have seen several McLaren 1-2 finishes this year, and still might but JPM must do better.

An improvement of just under a second for Jacques over the two days. Not great in comparison with the competition, but I'm content with JV's times and the car looks to have run very reliably with JV doing alot of laps.

Go on Fisi'. Doing the most laps..again.

Just a shame that he can't do the same on raceday.

Looks like JPM will be pretty hot.

Thanks for that.

JS.

fisi and alonso aren't half banging in the laps are they?!

Although the R25 has good traction and acceleration which will be of some benefit exiting the many chicanes at Monza, I feel that their lack of top speed will hurt them at the Italian GP and they may be passable before Primo Variante, although as we have seen the 2005 regulations have made overtaking very difficult on most tracks. Still, the Renault engine is clearly not the best in F1.
