:o did I miss something in another thread? 2 peaceful forum members at war about writing in uppercase?

no, it just irritated me the way he wrote "MID to LATE September" as if Senna is a thick little child.

Oh yeah: Your Mother.

How old are you? 10? In the UK, we don't go round saying all those crap "your mother" jokes/insults because nobody gets them. They are not offensive in the least and they epitomise and encapsulate american culture.

AR5, you are the most stereotypical american I have ever had the pleasure to talk to. Congrats. <_<

Took me longer to read that then the book about british dentistry...oh well.

"Because nobody gets them"...which proves lack of intelligence.

Explain one thing: Why cant Catholics hold public office in England yet you claim you are better than us?

no, it proves that nobody can fathom the workings of the stereotypical american mind which believes made up statements about people's mothers are offensive, even when the people partaking in "mother slagging" don't actually know each others mothers.

Firstly, I never claimed we were better than you. Secondly, I have no idea what you're talking about. Our nation is not nearly half as religious as yours. I don't concern myself with matters of religion, being an atheist myself. My dad's side of the family were from Ireland and were Catholics but I don't know.

Mindless? Surely you could come up with something better than that.

As for the better thing, you basically downplay all americans, which makes you seem better to yourselves.

Oh yeah, wasnt it a bunch of rag-tag farmer volunteers that beat the best army in the world to gain their own independance? And the country was called the United States of America, correct?

I have no need to think of something better, mindless sums up your insults up pretty well.

What on earth does this have to do anything?

OUCH!!!!!!! :lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol:

(oh, was I not supposed to put that in capitals.............)

Athiests Rules, as im one! No offence but religion is kinda silly to be honest!

Although I agree with you Ben, you can be stoned on this side of the Atlantic for saying such things openly.......... (happily there is not nearly the risk of that here in bonny old Canada, but in the US, you'd better watch out if you're caught saying that when there's too many ears about).

KS, you have to understand that for many Republicans (er, I mean Americans) they've never really gotten over that. For some reason, despite the fact that they won their independence, they still have a tremendous grudge against all things British (perhaps its a form of shared inferiority complex, I don't know). Or perhaps it is becuase they resent their own history, founded as they were as a British colony, and forever having to bear the burden of that collective 'shame'.

And before you think my ramblings just the result of some deep rooted and subconcious projection of my own subjective bias against the US, remember that the "Statue of Freedom" which sits atop the Dome of the US Capitol Building faces NorthEast, directly towards the UK - designed to represent an ever-present vigil to guard against her nation's attack by her enemies.

That is some deeply ingrained cultural bias you're talking about.

Purportedly, but in reality, there is little freedom to say anything in this current climate that is anti-government, anti-establishment, anti-christian, or anything else that runs against the mainstream accepted mantra of US superiority and global dominance. You will be soundly shouted down if you suggest that the US was wrong for the invasion of Iraq, or that their foreign policy has in any way contributed towards the current culture of terrorism that we as global citizens now face. As for religion, the US is one of the most religious nations on earth (at least insofar as organized religion is concerned), and there is little tolerance for criticism of faith anywhere. The best example of that is in politics, and particularly in the race for the Presidency over the last two years, where John Kerry was roundly criticized for not being public enough about his faith. Eventually, he had to start incorporating referrences to the practice of his faith into his speeches, or he would have lost any hope of challenging Bush for the White House. Such is the strength of the Christian right in America.

Nope, that is one god-fearing nation, and you'd do well to remember that.

As an athist I really hate it when religion interferes in matters of Education, Human Rights, Politics etc.

I agree the american media seems to be almost state controlled.

It is amazing how nations who begin by trying to set an example end up doing exactly what they started off against. The americans from guardians of freedom to a massive imperial power, Israel from a nation of persecuted people to their belligerence against any kind of International Law.

Interesting stuff funkejay, I find it quite odd that they are seemingly so attached to their own history. I don't think I'll ever be able to fully understand the american culture, of which a lot seems very contradictory, war and religion.

I agree with you completley cavallino

We kicked your a$$ once, we can do it again.

The Green Day song American Idiot exemplifies what the media does.

Oh, dont forget to mention the oh-so-world popular British media in this.

AR5, the arrogance of that sort of bullish response is precisely what makes you a nation of poor global citizens, and an unfriendly neighbor. And that, more than anything, is what I believe typifies the American problem. The majority of your countrymen and women seem to not feel the need to be a part of the global community, content instead to isolate yourselves within your own nation and cutlure, and resist any attempt to broaden your perspective. It is this very lack of curiosity and narrowness of perspective that similarly characterizes your president, and causes the rest of the world so much unease.

That may mean little to you now, but the era of US dominance in the world is ebbing, both in militaristic and economial terms, and as a result, you fail to learn these lessons at your own peril. For there will come a time when your nation will need to rely upon the very relationships you refuse to foster now.

I couldn't agree with you more, however, AR5 cannot see this.

Another example of this would be in a post in the cafe in which you wrote;

"We have 2600 nukes", as if it is something to be proud of.
