Albers takes a dim view of Robert Doornbos

There's no love lost between Christijan Albers and his countryman and 2005 team-mate Robert Doornbos.

Doornbos joined Albers at Minardi Cosworth for the German Grand Prix mid-season after Nicolas Kiesa ran out of funding to retain the drive. The addition of Doornbos seemed to raise the team as the two Dutch drivers battled for supremacy.

Now the season is over and Albers has hit out at the Dutch press for hyping up Doornbos.

"Doornbos is being hyped by the Dutch press as if he's a huge talent. But I keep beating him, so what does that make me? Superman?" Speed TV report Albers as saying.

The fact are that it was actually pretty close between Doornbos and Albers in their time together at Minardi, with Albers generally a little better off in qualifying and Doornbos achieving better race results.

"The most important part of driving for a team is improving the car and he hasn't done that at all - actually he hasn't made one improvement at Minardi since he joined us," Albers continued. "F1 is all about improving the car. Not about telling everyone how much you enjoyed the GP weekend over and over again."

Given the seemingly equal on track performances between Albers and Doornbos, there must be more to it than the development potential of the PS05 that was rarely even given a test day. Both Dutch drivers will be spending the winter months seeking the funding to continue in Formula One next year...

Thought that was extra stupid and ruined my once good opinion of him.

he's just bitter that doornbos has come into f1, raced much less than him and he's getting much more credit for it than albers has.

Hey, thats a bit harsh, maybe doornbos has erection problems, maybe he see's red and up it goes! Thats not a very nice thign to say now is it albers! Think how embarressed Doornbos must feel!

Albers seems like abit of a prima donna. It follows hit little hissy fit in F1 Racing Mag about wearing clogs. I still think he's good though, but I found this quite funny, especially the bit about him bagging Doornbos about getting a "woodie".
