BMW has announced that Malaysian petro-chemical firm Petronas will become its principal sponsor for the next four years.

Petronas has been a Sauber team partner for the past ten years and has badged its supply of Ferrari engines since 1997.

BMW bought Sauber outright in June to use as base for its factory team and Petronas has agreed to remain part of the programme after agreeing a deal on Thursday in Kuala Lumpur.

"We are delighted to have such a strong partner for our F1 project, said BMW motorsport director Mario Theissen.

"We are building on a longstanding association between Petronas and the previous Sauber team. Petronas is a major player above all in Asia, which is a very significant growth market for BMW too."

BMW will unveil its new car and livery at the team's in Valencia, in Spain on January 16.

I remember reading some time ago that the livery will be similar to their touring car livery. ie. similar blue and white like the Williams plus a bit of red.
