'Pay driver' era nears end - 28 November 2005

The nearing end of the pay-driver era is a 'worrying' phenomenon.

That's the belief of former Formula One team owner Eddie Jordan, who also laments the demise of fellow pitlane privateers Sauber and Minardi.

Exactly. I have raised similar concerns. Minardi introduced drivers like Alonso, Giancarlo Fisichella, Jarno Trulli etc to F1. STR will only look as far as its young driver programme and undeserving drivers such as Speed and Liuzzi.

I am not at all worried for the Michael Schumachers and Fernando Alonsos would likely have made it to F1 regardless. And the upside to doing away with pay drivers, eg getting rid of the Karthikeyans, Yoongs, etc, is tremendous!
