Ok he didnt crash, but he was slow compared to Button. Every session he was always about a second behind him, and I'm dead sure JV would have got closer to Button that Sato got. He performed pretty dismally in the race in my opinion compared to Button, who drove a solid race. At the end of the day he finished 9th, which is ok, but it didnt get him points and only got to 9th because of late attrition, ie Webber, Massa etc. If Sato got 9th, then Jacques would have got into the points, but where in the points we will never know.

yes but he had less grip due to front and rear wing problems to my understanding....so that was a fairly good job from him in the circumstances.

Sato was pathetic. Ok, he didn’t crash, although I think he touched Trulli at the start, but was very slow. You (Takuma’s fans) seemed to think Sato performed well in qualifying which leads me to conclude that you forgot to watch it because Sato was a full 9 tenths down on Jenson with a similar fuel strategy – he only carried a little more than Jenson. He qualified 7th and Jenson qualified 4th with an identical time to Montoya! Now on to the race, Sato went off the circuit and damaged his car. He finished a lowly 9th (and would have been much lower because Webber and Raikkonen retired who were in front of him on track), yet Jenson finished 6th and got BAR 3 points which almost matches Sato’s career total in one race!

Look at the facts people and you can clearly see that Sato did not perform well and that Jenson is by FAR the better driver. Had Jacques partnered Jenson I predict that BAR would have two points finishes and had they stuck to Bridgestone’s tyres they would have had a bigger overall budget as well as a better result at Australia, although of course we will have to wait until the end of 2004 to judge the best overall tyre.

i believe sato did a fairly good job ..... yes jenson for now seems the better driver so tht seems to fit his number 1 driver status and well i think we can put a side the timings in qualifying coz all said sato finished ahead of both mc larens in qualifying and i believe if he can improve his race performance a bit he will be among the points in many races to come and in fact he finished ahead of the toyota's, sauber's, jaguar and jordan..the only ones to beat him are from the big 4 and his team mate... tht doesnt seem like a VERY bad result to me....

he's rather new in F1 and i think everyone should give him a chance rather than just snub him away....

Jenson will always be better than Sato, unless he suffers mechanical problems, as he is by far the better driver.

Finishing ahead of the McLarens in qualifying wasn’t a particularly impressive feat considering their pace (10th and 12th) and the fact that DC at least, was on a 2 stopper (Raikkonen retired before we could determine his fuel load). Further more Sato was a huge 9.0 sec slower and some 2 places behind Jenson with only slightly more fuel.

Finishing ahead of the Toyotas, Saubers and Jaguars (who, apart from Fisichella, were all 2 or more laps behind the Ferraris!) is also not a particularly impressive feat either, considering the fact that the BAR is actually a good car and much better than the aforementioned cars (in Jenson’s hands). Excluding the big four, the rest of the field is no-where near BAR at this stage (even Webber wasn’t particularly close). BAR have developed a quick car and therefore Sato would be doing appallingly if non big-four cars beat him – which is what happened in the race before they all retired and he was subsequently promoted up the field to a fabulous 9th place, some two places and many seconds behind Jenson.

Sato is not rather new in F1, Bruni, Pantano, Baumgartner etc are new in F1. Sato is in his second year of F1, having already had one race in 2003 and been a tester for the rest of the time – he is not lacking experience, just talent.

u know Alistair Spink all i am sayin is give him a chance..... DC for example while he was always near mika he was most of the time a shadow to mika.....now he is a shodaw to kimi... ppl still give him a chance....

while tht may not be the best examples i just think he need to be given a chance.... about jenson to really think about it the only time he really performed was when he was in williams.... at bar well he didnt perform probably coz he didn have a proper machinery but well lets see when this season ends where he stands in the standings... if he's 9th or higher then he's good if he's not then i believe he's been over hyped .....

lets just see where the 2 bar drivers end up at the end of the season

Haha i don't and im sure a few others are the same on here.

Sato, I think, was taking more picnics in the grass during the race than actually racing! :D

:D

haha jens. i know you;re just havin fun, but you know all the drivers were having offs on fri & sat.

just to note the places were sato can improve and where jv would have no doubt done better:

-he didn't realise that the nudge with trulli had affected the balance of his car. the engineers noticed it at the 1st pit stop and were going to bring him in early. once they repaired it at pit stop 2 he matching jb's times. i noticed him falling back at th erace and didn't know why. this explains it.

-he could have started better and maybe avoided the incident. jv was always good off the line.

honestly, during the race that's all i can think of. i haven't wacthed the full tape yet. it's just his lack of experience that prevented him from doing better. not lack of talent imo.

3 very good points.

1. trust me, alastair will never give sato a chance. i and others (like jordan_rule  ) have made similar requests of alastair in the past with little success. it's personal with alastair when it comes to sato.

2. if he can come 9th behind the top 4 with where bar at the moment then that's a hell of an achivement imo. i wouldn't say any worse and he's over-hyped. top 10 would be a realistic goal at the mo' when everyone in the big 4 are proven winners (bar trulli).

3. wait til teh end of season? but that would be no fun would it? :D

9th may be good for him, but just look where Button finished and think, where would JV have put that car??? Sato was close to or over 1 second slower than JB all weekend, now thats wasting the great car BAR have finally produced.

there's no doubt jv would have done better, and i hope you understand that i'm under no illusions that sato is just as good, cos that's not what i'm saying. sato's an up-and-comer at a very early stage of his performance curve/career.

it's a shame that jv's out but that's a fact shaun, he's out and sato's in, and sato is only going to get better from here.

yeah i know you're not saying that taku, but the way DR and everyone else is raving about him, he performed abysmally. DR claims hes doing whats best for the team, how is hiring someone worse than the driver you fired better?? If he's good enough to receive the hype, then hes good enough to receive the criticism. If he performs well, I will acknowledge it, don't worry, I'm not narrow minded in that department, but I'm only commenting on what happened after this race and my opinion on it and how a better driver, JV or not, would have put that car into the points.

thats like saying williams shouldn't hire webber.....(say back in 2001) kos webber wouldn't have been as fast then.....but if they had....they would have one of the best drivers in there car instead of ralf. Webber is deffinatley better then ralf these days.
