F1 2010 The Video Game

Recommended Posts

Well guys, what do you think?? It's an awesome game & very realistic, a proper race sim! It is very hard though, you definately need to participate in all 3 practice sessions to be in with a shot of a good quali time! There are a few modes, career where you create yourself & choose between HRT, Virgin & Lotus as your starting team! There's Grand Prix mode where you can be Vettel, Hamilton or whoever real driver you wanna be!

Multiplayer is good but in order to start a race, everyone has to be ready unlike in GRID where if a few people ready up the clocks counts down! There's definately more carnage in multiplayer, especially the French who do nothing but crash!

Overall I recommend this game to any F1 fan!

In career mode here, single player and heading to the Catalunya GP. I don't know how realistic it is, because I am using the easiest level (I don't have patience to do a hundred practice laps on the same track just to find the amount of toe in in the front tires that would make my car driveable) and I don't have a steering wheel so using the keys which means a more "jerky" driving style.

But, even on the easiest level it has enough challenge for a casual gamer, unlike most other driving games that usually went from "full sim, steering wheel mandatory" style to "your car is invincible, you are invincible, and whatever you do you'll win". Presently, I am racing in a Lotus (career mode only lets you choose between the bottom three teams, a nice touch) and although I can usually give the Force Indias a race for their money, there is still a noticeable gap between my car and the top ten cars. In races you need to find your perfect race line or you will findyourself losing places. Tire management has its impact too (rather minor in easiest mode but still noticeable).

As I posted in the game thread, the game graphics are gorgeous. I am using the highest setting with no problems on my Quad Core 2.6GZ with an ATI 4850 and 4GB of RAM, and using my 32" LCD TV as monitor. Looks impressive! Loved driving in Malaysia where I was 8th until a late race downpour ruined my chances completely (decided to stay on track with slicks until too late). You can watch the sky as it goes from sunny to a full storm, the water puddles on track...In China you could feel the bumps on certain parts of the track...all in all, very realistic.

No assists, hard mode - the only way to do it.

Is it ever going to be available for Mac OS X or PS2? I'm going to venture to guess it is not, which would mean that I cannot play it. But in Soviet Russia, games play you, so that doesn't matter anyway.

Macs are not for games. They don't know what fun means.

Ask Ron if you don't believe me.

I love the game although had frustration in my first race. I had TWO punctures and so finished last, and the team were unhappy with my performance, despite me being a strong 9th (for williams & way ahead of Barrichello) before I had a puncture. In career mode u can choose from HRT, virgin, lotus, force india & williams.

Steph how can u do it with no traction control? You have to barely accelerate to prevent spinning round, and the result is I get overtaken! So i've turned TC on but all other assists off.

I've had the game for a while now, so can probably give you a list of my pros/cons.

Pros

  • First friggin F1 game a PC gamer has managed to get since 2002.
  • Great graphics.
  • Excellent representation of the tracks.
  • Easy to pick-up and play, regardless of knowledge of Formula One.
  • Overall a fun little game.
  • Realistic AI.

Cons

  • First big con, corrupted saved game. Very frustrating. I was second in the championship, at Brazil, and then I mistakenly exited practice through my engineer after I'd done an R&D objective which means it corrupted my game and I've had to start all over again now!
  • Damage isn't really satisfactory. Codemasters have previously been the masters of damage, but this has left me a little disappointment. The damage you can occur to your front wing is very realistic, but it seems to me they spent too long on that and not enough on other bits. On full damage the most I've had is a front wheel (or both) come off (which isn't realistic considering the tethers they have in real life) and a wrecked front wing.
  • Penalties/warnings not very realistic. I've been crashed into several times and got warnings for it.
  • Radio messages sometimes get a bit repetitive.
  • Too frequent punctures.

Overall though, I'm enjoying it. Well worth the money. Hopefully Codemasters can improve the damage for next year.
