Jacques and Fisichella set to swap

It seems that both Fisichella and newly appointed Villeneuve may join their 2005 teams earlier than expected. It is believed that Renault Team Manger Flavio Briatore has discussed the thought of Fisichella in an early move to Renault for the China Grand Prix, which was rejected by Sauber Team Boss, Peter Sauber. During the week Sauber had appointed Jacques Villeneuve for a 2005 drivers seat, and currently under contract with Renault for the last three races of the season, a direct swap between teams, could give them a chance to test their 2005 line-up before seasons end.

I hope the article is wrong. i read that Fisi was first choice for Renault, naturally seeing as he'll be there next year, but Sauber wanted alot of money, hence JV is brought in. I hope JV gets the Renault drive for the last 3 races, he has a decent shot at winning a race, and it could be his last, however my tip is that if he is to win, it'll be in China. Im not saying he'll win, even JV says he wont, and that he'd be happy being a little behind Alonso as he is "very very fast" and he just wants to learn from him, but if he is to win, it'll most likely be at China. Never thought I 'd use the words Villeneuve and win in the same sentence again, but wrong I was. D'oh

So do I, since only in these 3 races do we have any hope of seeing MS-JV fight again. But there again this is a crazy paddock. :?

This is just in. Pipass.com posted that Renault have confirmed JV for the last three races. Great news in my opinion. :D:D:D:D:D

You know people alot more could change than we all know from what is told or let out to the general F1 public as it were.

Talk of Sauber taking Villeneuve early is weird from both teams point of view. Why would Sauber risk having to train ,setup Jacques for only two races after the China GP ? or why would Renault have to redo alot of what they just went through with J.V. to apply it to G.F. ??

Money & Early developements not having to be guarded from departing drivers.

I think this came up because Jacques did well enough on the 2nd day of testing to show he is with great pace and can be at the top times NOW.

Sauber may not lose anything but gain overall ...Renault might lose a true winner but hold on to their cars secrets more so and not have Alonso rated so accurately (in a good way for him and Flavio).

I think Jacques in a week in that car would be alot higher up than what was let on at Silverstone ...and in a few races times ..hmmm

Now Flavio & Renault may realise that G.F. should be close to this performance level and he is coming next anyways ...why not switch early, it actually may be best ?

So now another attached outcome of Other events involves Button's unknown destination for a team ...what if Williams loses the CRB ruling ?

Can not have Button or Fishichella ...maybe ,just maybe Williams can buy back Villeneuve!

It never over til its over .......

JV won't go to Williams- everythings changed since he was there, and for the worse. JV talked alot about respect and praised Sauber for that, it'll look bad on him if he just ditches them in an instant, and he'll be seen in much the negative light Button is seen over his move to Williams. JV said he wanted respect, he got it from Sauber, I hope he gives it back should something like this arise. Yes, I'd much prefer JV in a topline car, but not if it means JV driving in political situations ala BAR.

I think that JV has almost certainly got the Renault drive for the remaining three races this year, especially if he impresses in Shanghai. I see the logic of hiring Fisi but he would cost too much money. Further more, JV is a big-name driver who will help bolster Renault

CAL and sennaa both have good arguments re fisi & jv being there in the renault at suzuka & brazil, but cost-wise jv is th ebest option provides he races well at shanghai, and i don't think you could find another driver more motivated to drive in general, not to mention beat bar...

i think flabio would be wise to stick with jv regardless of the attractiveness of a possible swap.

hope JV kicks MS a## in the last 3 races... hihihihi

btw sauber uses ferarri engines right.. if im not mistake they use the ferrari engine of the previous year... so tht would be a good challenge for JV.... beat MS with an older engine!!! :P:P

You are mistaken. This year Ferrari and Sauber are supposed to use the same engine; this is the first time that Sauber has used a current version of the Ferrari engine. Sauber also had their gearbox designed with the assistance of Ferrari personnel and their 2004 car does very much resemble the 2003 Ferrari...

Actually they use the same transmission.

They are this year, but apparently they are going back to using their own design for '05.

Senna, you should be glad JV got a ride with Sauber. Their cars are very fast and have had few reliability issues this year. They come home in a respectable finishing area and with JV who knows what we can see.

I can see why he's a little upset that JV is with Sauber, seeing as they won't help him win a race, but I feel JV wants something from Sauber he couldn't get at BAR. The chance to help build a team and take them to the top. No BS, no politics, just business. They won't win in the next few years, but as I said earlier, should they reach the top, JV could lay claim to helping them up. I'd much prefer a Williams or Renault drive for JV as he's one of the best there is and can match it with M$ a few times, but the situation isn't right, as shown at Williams.

Respect. That was what JV wanted. Seeing, he got it at Sauber no harm signing for them. There is also that wind tunnel. Maybe Suaber will up their game with JV breathing down their back for improvements.

Sadly, due to the current rate of development and relative performance of the Sauber compared with the rest of the grid, I believe that the best JV can hope from Sauber in a typical race in 2005, with perfect reliability, is a lowly points finish. I understand that JV doesn

One thing to consider, at least the Wind tunnel is up and running. It's a respectable team, JV should be easy to work with over there.

JV said the windtunnel was a major major factor in him signing. Maybe he sees or knows something we don't. We'll see next year and in '06.

JV knows what a good wind tunnel can achieve much better than any of us.

I only hope he made the right decision. I want to see him consistently in the points at least.
