Most Embarrassing Mistakes In Recent F1 History

Recommended Posts

I've said it before, and I'm gonna say it agian: Taki Inoue getting run over by the Medical car at Hungary 1995.

It was on Brazil, in the Senna curve...(or it was another minardi crashing with the medical car?) ;)

Taki got run over at Hungary, I think it was either Heidfeld or Bernoldi who ran into the medical car at Brazil in 2001 I think it was.

I have to see footage of that incident at somepoint, how on earth did something like that happen? they must've really been asleep at the wheel.

List 10 rule changes and you'll probably have my list... especially whichever rule prevented the Michelin scum finding a solution to their Indy problem...

oh and Stoddy's hypocrisy at that very same race....

(his insistence that he would NOT be racing unless the chicane was put in, and then actually doing the opposite because Jordan decided to race too)

I would imagine there are a lot of mistakes yet to be mentioned which should in/near that list; anyone who crashed into the 'wall of champions' should be embarrassed, hardly worth being in this list though.

?

If there are incidents missing, please feel free to specify which.

Crashing into the wall of champions, as Button most recently did while under the vaguest threat from an approaching MS, giving up a sure fourth place finsih and the first points of the season for BAR, is surely embarrassing but hardly top 10 material.

they wanted Sato to be around guys with "big feet".

Anyone who has seen the Chinpokomon episode of South Park knows what I'm talking about.

to try to get him more noticed, and it worked, helped the team managers not pick him to driver for their team

What?

Sato has embarrassed Honda and exposed them as putting marketing ahead of performance which is obviously not a good message for a carmaker to send to prospective buyers. So, IMO, he has been a total failure off-track as well as on.

i said it helped the team managers NOT pick him, they would be real stupid to pick him up

No, the team managers who picked him were correct in their thinking: sign a good prospect from F3 in return for Honda engines and support. However in hindsight it is clear that what was a good prospect in Sato has been an abysmal failure in F1. With (terrible) results to guide them, I am sure that no other team manager will repeat this mistake. I fully expect Sato to depart F1 at the end of the season.

we ALL expect Sato to leave after this year, so would honda leave too

Honda can survive without a Japanese driver - or at least I hope they can, lest we see Shinji Nakano take the seat - the home market is important but not necessarily their most important. Besides they have a huge investment in F1 which they have just stepped up, I don't think they would walk away from that.

That's right Buttonfan. I believe BAR places far too much importance on the marketability of their drivers but that is likely a reflection of the corporate strategy (marketing first) than anything else. I mean they treat Sato like a legitimate driver and Button like a great - it's ridiculous.

well if rumours are anything to go by, then they will drop Sato for '07 and look to have Barrichello and Heidfeld as their lineup. The latter is a big surprise in my view, I thought he'd be off to BMW, but I heard BMW does not want to pay as much as BAR have apparently offered.

I would not like to pay very much for Heidfeld but I suppose there are few options to choose from.

Ferrari - Schum/Massa

Williams - Webber/Button

BAR - Heidfeld/Barrichello

BMW - Villeneuve/???
