ferrari and marlboro are a combination i always remember!

For years Marlboro was far more closely associated with Team McLaren, at least until McLaren switched to West as their primary sponsor at the beginning of '97. That was the end of what had been a 23 year relationship between the two, although Marlboro had also sponsored Ferrari during part of that same time (though to a lesser extent).

But you're right, for nearly the last decade the two have been virtuously synonymous.

I remember those white-red Mclarens, anyone knows why that partionship ended? Was it just the money?

ferrari/marlboro must be the only combo that can get away with such a deal! it would be a waste of money for anyone else.

Apparently Philip Morris, the Marlboro parent company will buy the entire livery of the car, basically meaning the car will run devoid of sponsors and in Marlboro red. I also read that the Ferrari emblem could be placed on Marlboro packets to highlight the partnership.

The news item I read seemed to point to Phillip Morris Inc buying the entire livery, as you say, but then selling on space to other sponsors as and when they see fit. Seems a strange arrangement but would see some return on their outlay.

I think Phillip Morris own some other non tobacco brands as well, although I'm not sure that we'll be seeing Philadelphia cheese branding on the Ferrari any time soon.

Yeah, I also remember Marlboro more from those great Mclarens of the 1980's/1990's pasted in the Marlboro colours...

You will probably find that Marlboro pulled out of Mclaren because of their lack of success in that period between Senna & Hakkinens Championships.

This new deal with Ferrari must be worth Big $$$...
