Mosley's New Proposal

Recommended Posts

Must be good, since stoddy already dislikes it :clap3:

Radical new proposals made for 2006

The ten Formula One teams present in the Suzuka paddock this weekend received an email from FIA President Max Mosley on Saturday containing detailed proposals for altering Formula One

Other changes are said to include the removal of the third car on Fridays

I personally dont like this rule becacause it helps the smaller teams be competitive and makes racing more exciting. All the other rules i quite like.

Here is the full version, indeed my Stoddy hypothesis was correct, sounds mighty interesting to me. Some of the things are purely there to stir things up, Mosley seems to like doing that.

Possible changes to the draft 2006 Sporting Regulations

1. Practice times

Proposal

Friday Untimed 10.00 to 11.00

Untimed 13.00 to 14.00

Saturday Untimed 10.00 to 11.00

Qualifying 13.00 to 14.00

2. Qualifying format

Proposal

Saturday Morning 60-minute free practice session (10.00 to 11.00)

Saturday Afternoon 60-minute qualifying session (13.00 to 14.00)

13.00 to 13.15 : All cars are permitted on the track and at the end of the 15-minute period the slowest five cars can take no further part in qualifying. These cars will then be arranged on the last five grid positions in the order of their times, the fastest occupying 16th position. The times for the fifteen remaining cars will then be deleted (i.e. be irrelevant to the grid)

13.20 to 13.35 : The remaining fifteen cars are permitted on the track and at the end of the 15-minute period the slowest five cars can take no further part in qualifying. These cars will then be arranged on the grid in positions eleven to fifteen in the order of their times, the fastest occupying 11th position. The times for the ten remaining cars will then be deleted (i.e. be irrelevant to the grid)

13.40 to 14.00 : The remaining ten cars are permitted on the track and at the end of the 20-minute period the cars will be arranged on the grid in positions one to ten in the order of their times, the fastest occupying pole position

4. Third car on Fridays

Arguably, the purpose of allowing all but the top four teams to run a third car on Fridays has been defeated as most teams in this position are or were using the extra car to gain a competitive advantage

Proposal

Teams should no longer be permitted to run a third car on Fridays

Note : Prohibiting the use of a third car is essential if spare cars are themselves to be prohibited.

I dont like this one at all. I think that those smaller teams need this to be competitive. In the F1 survey done by the FIA fans wanted competitive and close racing, without the third car for the smaller teams (Jorden. Red Bull, Minardi) i fear that they will be way off the pace.

Well it gives teams a huge advantage, as Mclaren had this year. the problem is the bottom teams run the 3rd car as a publicity stunt, they cannot afford to run a third car unless someone else pays, the only teams to benefit are big budget teams that finish in a low position in some year like Toyota and BAR last year, and Mclaren this year.

Being able to run a third car is a massive advantage since that car faces no engine penalties. Mclaren testing usually involves PDLR pounding in lap after lap to see what gives in the car. I am sure Renault have not been very happy about Mclaren testing with 3 cars every race Friday.

Right - F1 Qualifying should be like DTM.

30 minutes free qualifying, then a 20 minute break, then the top 10 go out again like F1 now on an out, flying and in lap to fight for pole again. Great viewing, pleases all, gives everyone a chance.

 I like this new quali system, but the DTM one looks far superior. I don't agree with the banning of third cars. It should be for the bottom 3 or 4 teams as I can't see any of the big teams finishing this poorly.
