End retirement talk, Schumi told

Ralf (right) says Michael still has plenty to offer in F1

BBC

Michael Schumacher has made a mistake in discussing his possible retirement before the season has even started, according to his brother Ralf.

He said Michael should focus on making Ferrari strong again, rather than say he may well retire if they are not.

"If you have won so much with one team you should not before the season starts be talking about leaving if they are not able to win.

"That's where your motivation needs to come from," Ralf said.

At 37, Michael Schumacher is the oldest driver in F1, and will be entering his 15th season in 2006, having won seven titles and 84 races.

"I don't think Michael is over, he has been a strong driver in the past and is still a strong driver"

Ralf Schumacher

But Ralf, who is heading into his second year with Toyota in 2006, said he was still easily good enough to chase yet more success even though Ferrari had a poor season in 2005.

"If you really love your job like he does he should continue," Ralf said.

"I don't think a champion expires from one day to another. I don't think it was Michael's fault last year.

"I don't think Michael is over, he has been a strong driver in the past and is still a strong driver.

"He is still capable of doing great things. I believe Michael is still capable of winning races and championship."

You'd think MS hadn't demonstrated any ability, over the years, to make up his own mind, based upon all this advice from quitters like Hakkinen, idiots like Irvine and also-rans like Ralf.

All we need now is a comment from "He who thinks he's God", J Stewart and we'll have a full set of meaningless "advice".

Ralf Schumacher has just criticised the media for incorrect reports.

“Some articles regarding a comment I made about Michael took what I said completely out of context,” he insisted.

“I still wish that Michael spends many more successful years in F1. I am proud of him and his achievements and, like in the past, wish him all the best for the future.”

The media needs to clean up it's act.

Many more years? c'mon Ralf

You want him out of there and you know it, he's so much better than you in every way and you can't shine as long as he's lining up in front of you on the grid

You've got an ego too , don't try to hide it

The media nearly always puts a spin on comments made, especially in f1. Ralf has a point though, MS should concentrate fully on the 2006 campaign and not be talking in public about the future. I'm not a schumacher fan at all but it would sadden me to see MS lose motivation and go downhill. I find it worrying that in a way I actually want him to win 1 last title. Just to shut up all these morons who say he's losing it

Well I don't need MS to get another title but if it's going to happen I hope that it is a really close battle till the end

me too. The only others I would rather see win are Button and Montoya - and thats being optimistic!! Kimi really deserves a title but he's got plenty of years yet to do so and I think schumi should go out on a high. He'll be remembered as one of the greatest ever so its fitting that he should retire as 'the man'

He's one of the greatest drivers but I think that his car might let him down this year and he will struggle

Kimi will take it

Kimi gets my vote too, the mclaren is likely to be the best car. As long as its reliable kimi could be unstoppable

Oh I see. I dont think alonso will be top 2. He had sooo much good fortune last year, it cant last. He's a great driver but unless renault produce the best car I cant see him doing it again in 2006, I think mclaren will be stronger and ferrari should be ahead of them too

I suppose we needed to give the foreign teams a chance cos the wcc was won by british teams from 1981 to 1998 (I think)
