Not All Cops Are A**holes

If I wanted to go fast in a straight line I'd get on a train..........

:D

A good job it's only Mike & Bruce as the American contingent in this thread (so far anyway), otherwise it might get to the 'my country is the best' realm again!!

For all the people hating the police I would suggest the following: A one week strike from the police all over the world, they would just stop working whatever happens. I let you imagine the results......

Besides, the Police were a damn good band.

Yeah, yeah yeah, this old chestnut - as ykick says we use mph over here, not kph. At least get your facts straight, motorway speed limit is 70 MPH (put that in caps for clarification  ) and most traffic runs at 80-85. Unless there are roadworks, which are quite frequent, I grant you that!!

And you Americans would have to stop and think what to do if you were to drive on one of our, narrow, twisty, country roads. I can just see you now........oh no a bend, what do I do ???

Sorry pabloh, but here in So. Cal. we have some of the best narrow twisty roads in the land, and we love driving them :naughty:

Indeed, gridlock on our freeways is so bad that you are lucky to be able to drive the speed limit very often but on the rare occasions that you can it seams that 90+ is the norm. I have a steadfast rule for not getting tickets..........never be the fastest car on the road, the highway patrol always nabs the fastest one.

Going back a few (quite a few) years you might have been able to get away with 90 here, but not anymore, most sensible people seem to keep 80-85 at the most now - not that I drive motorways very much these days. I think it also varies on which motorways you are on, there are some quiet-ish ones by me, but I imagine it's not the same around London, for example.

Yep, that's the best idea, don't draw attention to yourself!!

My car's maxmium speed is about 130 kph . The little 1.3 engine wont go any faster :( . Off course it doesnt help that my car has done 350000 km in its life and its still on its original engine.

Well, I always say that things are relative, ykick - I mean going 80mph in your car is probably more eventful than doing 120mph in a Ferrari!!

Is your lawn mower road legal and does your lawn mower have a bonet which opens like a Ferrari. :D

I don't know about Oz, but it wouldn't be if your petrol/diesel prices were like ours!!

I know for a fact that petrol prices in Australia are about half of the petrol prices in England.

Doesn't really sound much different to here. I think most UK folk still think you have a 55mph limit. As for the police, as long as you're not being a complete lunatic they're not too bad - it's the cameras that are the problem because they have no discretion.

Our petrol is about $6.00 a US gallon. Diesel is more.

Some states on the eastern seaboard do have some low limits (55-60) but most states have either 65 or 70 with some at 75..............

But England is a tiny country as i think you could fit hundreds of Englands in Australia so essentually English people dont need as much fuel to get where they want to go.

I think that imperial gals. are about 2 tenths more :eusa_think:

Why does your country like being different to the rest of the world. What is the point of having a gallon which is different to the normal gallon. Also why dont all the countries living in the stone ages ditch gallons altogether and join the rest of the modern world in using Litres.

Well actually the Dutch and the French found Australia first but they thought that only a idiot would set up a colony here so they sailed off. It was British optimism which led them to believe they could create a successful colony. And yeas i just realised i dont really have a point to make. :D

Because we don't want anything to do with the French!
