Thanks, but I got it.

re post

Oh, the premiership.

Well, true that people outside England don't go to EPL games in England (not entirely true actually).

But around Europe and outside it, people do watch EPL games on TV.

I know I watch some of them. And I know english football teams have demonstrative games/trips in SE Asia were they get a lot of money and are quite popular (and you won't see that at NASCAR).

The EPL, along side the Primera Division (Spain) and Serie A (Italy) are the most popular football national series in Europe (and they're second only to UEFA Champions League). Also players from around the world want to end up in these 3 national championships, since this is where the money and action is.

Chances are, around the world, the EPL is more watched/popular than NASCAR (you won't fans of Nascar in Iran or China).

And they'll know its players (Roney, C. Ronaldo, X. Alonso, S. Gerrard, Andriy Shevchenko, Michael Ballack, Didier Drogba and Co.) more than they'll know about J. Johnson and the Gordon brothers; and they'll know its teams like Liverpool, M. United, Arsenal, Chelsea a lot more than HMS, DEI and Co..

I rest my case:
Worldwide

Promoted as "The Greatest Show On Earth", the Premier League is the world's most popular and most watched sporting league, followed worldwide by around half a billion people.[31] It is widely watched overseas, with matches being shown in 195 countries,[32] generally on networks owned and/or controlled by NewsCorp, which owns BSkyB and thus the primary UK and Ireland TV rights. NewsCorp has purchased ad space at some Premier League stadiums to promote Fox Soccer Channel, which is the company's US broadcaster (as in Britain, the rights are shared with Setanta Sport). Rogers Sportsnet in Canada carries several matches each Saturday. The Premier League is particularly popular in Asia, where it is the most widely distributed sports programme.[33] In the People's Republic of China, matches attract television audiences between 100 million and 360 million, more than any other foreign sport.[34] Due to this popularity, the league has held two pre-season tournaments in Asia, the only Premier League affiliated tournaments ever to have been held outside England. In July 2003 the FA Premier League Asia Cup was held in Malaysia, featuring three Premiership clubs, Chelsea, Newcastle United and Birmingham City, and the Malaysia national team.[35] In 2005 the Asia Trophy featured a similar format, held in Thailand and featuring the Thailand national team competing against three English clubs — Everton, Manchester City and Bolton Wanderers, the latter of whom won the trophy.[36] In 2007, the FA Premier League Asia Cup will move to Hong Kong, to be renamed the Barclays Asia Trophy and feature Liverpool, Portsmouth, Fulham and the Hong Kong FA Cup winning team, South China.

Radio coverage of the Premier League can also be heard in the United States on Sirius Satellite Radio.

The FA has faced difficulty fighting internet copyright infringement. In an effort to stop the broadcasting of streams of live games on the net they have hired NetResult, a company that specializes on protecting trademark rights on online. Although NetResult has cut down the number of sites offering free streams some see their actions as heavy handed. The British Broadcasting Corporation reported that NetResult on behalf of the Premier League - emailed a warning to the website www.footyclips.com, an independent site that links to youtube videos, that forced its temporary closure.[37]
So NASCAR you see, doesn't even exist.

Bottoml line,

Bernie Ecclestone has only one business model that completlely screws the organisers of a race unless they can get government subsidies involved. Tony George is a businessman, not a fool. And the US local, state and federal government are accountable to US taxpayers who in their right mind would not accept a "bail out" of the US GP that in the end just goes to Ecclestone's wife and two spoilt rotten daughters.

Unfortunately there are enough crackpot third world regimes on this planet who are totally unaccountable to their people and who are wholeheartedly willing to assist Ecclestone enrich himself and his nefarious family.

Why Max Mosley gave Ecclestone a 100 year contract to run F1 is beyond comprehension. The guy is completely damaging the sport. It is losing its heritage, its history and its soul.

The US GP is gone, so is the French GP for next year at least. I suppose Silverston's days are numbered too. Why Ecclestone bullies the BRDC over that track is also incomprehensible when considering that Interlagos in Brazil is such a decrepid facility in comparison. I have seen that track first hand and I can tell you, that the grand stand is an example of crumbling concrete at its finest.

Bernie Ecclestone could be a little more gracious and grant the track organisers a cut of the tv revenue as well. After all, without a track, there is no race. But he won't do that ofcourse.

Iin the end, all the track organisers in Europe and America should organise themselves as a bloc and put pressure on Ecclestone to force him to change his business model towards them.

Drifting guy, good post. Then again I will NOT miss Imola, nor Magny Cours, but I hope Silverstone stays and miss Suzuka.

The shift/change/drift in circuits is nothing new for GP racing, and is here even before Bernie. I new circuits will pop, I won't mind if they're like in Turkey.

I'm curious, what are the worldwide ratings numbers for Formula 1? On any given Sunday, how many people watch the race on TV, listen to it on the radio?

I did a few quick searches but I wasn't able to find anything...
