Senna Trial to be Reopened?

Recommended Posts

Just a quick one here, pitpass.com says that a court in Italy has annuled the result of the 2003 hearing into Ayrton Senna's death. This means that that there could be a new trial.

Do we really need another retrial?? I saw a doco which stated that he lost control because of a loss of tyre pressure and thus loss of downforce due to the safety car going so slow.

Any thoughts??

I think they have to let Senna rest in peace, he died doing the thing he love, he is not the only one who has died in races, accidents happens all the time...

So I wonder why the Italians needs to have Senna

well said webber... this guy is the reason i started watching F1 and although another trial regarding senna may not be welcomed by a lot of ppl i think if there was a lack of safety on purpose on senna's car then they( whoever concerned) should be charged accordingly for they took away what was at tht time and even now is one of ther greatest legends in F1 ever....

Rest in Peace Senna

It's no joke. It's all over the papers and websites. I don't really know what will happen now as the evidence is the car and his helmet have been destroyed. I say let the great one Rest in Peace. But one thing I do know, it'll be a glum day come 1st of May.

nah i haven't watched it, although i've seen the accident, along with those of ratzenberger and barrichello. A weekend we never want to see in any form of motor racing. Ayrton was going flat through the Tamburello curve, a flat corner when he just speared straight on into the wall. The impact didn't kill him, but as his car dragged along the wall, the front suspension came up and pierced his visor, which killed him. A sad weekend.

I remember the race and crash.

The crash doesnt look very bad at all, we have seen drivers walk away from much worse, the problem was the front right wheel broke off on impact witht he wall and according to different reports, either the wheel hit his head or a suspension strut pierced his helmet and into his brain.

I remember when the crash happened and when they took Senna from the car and layed him down, a shot from the air in a helicopter showed a massive pool of blood around his head as he was laying on the ground. After that every camera at the circuit was turned off apart from the one in pitlane. Thats when I new it was bad and I woke up my dad and told him that I think Senna is dead.

This was before the internet and I had to wait till the next day to find out if he was dead or not. I remember walking into work and my boss at the time who was a mad F1 fan and GoKart racer said 'Well motorsport is dangerous after all, Senna's dead' and thats how I found out he was dead.

i was too young to remember this but i have a friend in japan who was watching the race at the time and now they will not watch f1 anymore. says its just not the same..

i do remember the ill-feeling tho a couple years back when i think it was luciarno burti, or the 2nd jaguar driver, who went straight off into the wall after merely skidding on the grass. it was a horrific impact and i was feeling sick in the stomach watching eddie irvine and the marshalls trying to get him out from under the tyres. and he was fine in the end. i suppose that has nothing on a crash like senna's and the crashes of past eras..

Regarding Senna, I've always thought that the suspension pierced his visor, thus killing him. I read in a book that the Prof, Sid Watkins said that when he got to Ayrton he saw his pupils and knew it was bad and said he felt Senna have one last sigh, and to him, his soul had departed. We lost a great man that day.

What many people forget sadly is that we also lost Roland Ratzenberger the day before. I've seen a clip of his crash and it was very very sickening. He lost control coming out of tamburello, just before the drop to tosa and went straight on, hit the wall and rebounded back onto the track. You could tell he was dead just by looking at his motionless body in the c##Kpit. Very sickening. Apparantly he lost part of his front wing.

thay should on not eaven started the race on that bad day in march. that way every one chould on morned the passing of rolland ratzenberger and we whould still have a grate man alive to day. or eaven better imola chould of been deamed unsafe so then on one whould of dided that weekend.

hay what did thay do to the race after that did thay put the safty car out then bering them all back to the pits

They should have just stopped the race after the crash at the grid, but as for me, I have my own theory about the Senna Crash

He was going through the Tamburello when he bottomed out hard enough that the steering column broke. I didn't see any sparks, so it must have bottomed out a certain way. Now, my question was, if Senna knew he was going off the road, when was the brake pedal used?

i dont think it was. i know that he took his foot off the gas as soon as he chould not turn in. the verson that i have shows some telemtary of his car nd you can just make out the line were it has he took his foot off but i can make out eany of the number up the coner.

i dont think that he bottomed out because it his sterring was to go then there whould of been some huge sparks but there was none. i was told that there was a nice bit of cardon fiber on the track right were the drivers turn in so maby that gave him a flat and at the spped that he was going just sent him off.

ok i take that back because you can see sparks from under sennas car. frome the behind shot the is taken i M$ car just befour Senna goes off the is a flash and then the after trale like his floor had hit somthing. there is also some marks on the ground fron were Sennas plank hit the ground

That differs to my theory. My theory is that the safety car was going very slowly, thus Ayrton lost tyre pressure. Low tyre pressure results in a loss of downforce. This loss of downforce caused the car to bottom out in Tamburello and thus Ayrton went straight on. I saw a doco which states on the telemetry, he was flat on the brakes, but couldn't stop it in time considering he was just about on top speed, over 300 k/ph. The steering column broke as a result of the impact according to the doco.

We can only speculate but I feel the only man who knew what went wrong, left us on the 1st of May 1994.

yes i think that it was because of the safty car that made him lose tyre pressure thus making him bottom out and braking his stering coulmn. but i think that his stering coulmu had all redy had a crack in. if we still had the last 1.6sec of the in car video then we whould be able to see the FW16 run into the wall and thus see what Senna's rection was. just by knowing his rection meanes that we chould know half of went wrong. and also if we had the Black Box that was in His FW16 we will know all of the Telemtery to see just what was happing in side the blue rocket

I saw the same doco, the reduced tyre pressure, lowered the ride height of the car and when it bottomed out the sudden stop of air flow under the car rendered the wings useless, it was then like the car was on ice.

Telemetry shows the steering wheel was still being used and did not break until the car hit the wall.

god knows what they hope to achieve by re-opening the trial.

was not senna saying the he felt unsafe in the car all weekend and that the car felt very twichey as if he was about to lose control. i heard somwere that it might of been that inside wing that thay had on the rear wing of his FW16 until Willians took it off for the next race

yeah I heard the same thing. I don't know why the case is being reopened as all the evidence, ie, the car and Senna's helmet have been destroyed, and I feel that the only man who knew what happened, sadly is not with us anymore. :(
