MANSELL TO GUIDE RACING SONS

ITV

Former Formula 1 world champion Nigel Mansell will throw his weight behind the careers of his two sons Greg (17) and Leo (21) as they launch they make their car racing debuts in 2006.

Mansell, who last raced in Formula 1 back in 1995 but more recently dominated the Grand Prix Masters race at Kyalami, has accepted an ambassador's role with BMW.

Part of his job will be to promote the Formula BMW category and help the development of young driving talent, including his two sons who will compete in the UK series in 2006.

“Greg and Leo have both done some karting in recent years and they have shown that they can cut it at that level," said Mansell.

"Both of them have decided separately that they would like to take their motorsport careers to the next level. We spent time together looking for the best championship for them to compete in and Formula BMW fits that bill perfectly.”

Greg Mansell admitted that a career in racing was not his father's first wish for his son's career, but said that the Williams legend was fully supportive of the plan.

“Dad has always been very supportive of what we have done but he has never tried to force Leo or I into motorsport," he said.

"Dad was actually keen for me to pursue a career in golf, but he is delighted that I have decided to compete in Formula BMW and it is great to have his backing.”

Well, I suppose it really is outside the F1 circus, even though our Noige is most definitely F1. Cursory inspection reveals that the two mini Mansells are actually quite quick. It may be prudent to keep a weather eye on their progress.

I'm sooooo jealous of sons of f1 drivers, they just seem to get a free ticket into a career in motor racing. It would be great if one day we have Mansell brothers in f1 (like we have schumachers now), does anyone know what bruno senna is doing in 06? I know he was in british f3 in 05 but dont think he managed much

Yeah i saw her at the Masters thingy I was like    :)  ^_^  Whats her name? But yeah it would be nice to be the son of a F1 driver or the brother of one because you can actually get into F1 regardless of your talent for example Ralf Schumacher.  :P

Ayrton Senna - "I don't know driving in another way which isn't risky. Each one has to improve himself. Each driver has its limit. My limit is a little bit further than other's."

"Hammy, it's a good job your potentially gonna become the best driver in F1, otherwise you'd just be a total c#ck."

"You just don't mess with Jacques Villeneuve" - Murray Walker, 1997 Hungarian GP.
"When Jacques was with us, he was a very aggressive driver, fiercely competitive, mentally hard as nails. Very quick with it, very gifted. A bright fellow, undoubtedly, very intelligent. He was an absolutely born racing driver - look at the way he'd bang wheels with Michael, pass people on the outside, that kind of thing" -Sir Frank Williams on Jacques Villeneuve
"This year, with BMW, JV's going very well, and I'm pleased for him. Whether or not he'll get a drive next year I don't know, but I hope he does, he's an unusual, and very strong addition to the F1 community. A character." - Sir Frank Williams again on Jacques Villeneuve
The Nojvnof1 2006 driver lineup - Jacques Villeneuve, Nico Rosberg, Christian Klein, Scott Speed.
