Oli 1 Report post Posted September 17, 2009 After years of struggling to get decent images from my crappy Nikon D80 I'm looking to upgrade to a rangefinder. I'm looking at either the Mamiya 6 or a Leica M7. I'm assuming that nobody has heard of or uses the Mamiya unless they're in Japan, but I'd be interested to know if anyone uses or knows anyone who uses a Leica- I want to know if the outrageous price tag is actually worth it. I know the Mamiya is pretty much the world's best camera, but I am worried about its build quality so I want someone to sell me a bit on the Leica.

Any reason why you're worried about the build quality of the Mamiya?? I only ask, because Mamiya have had a prescence in the UK as far as I can remember, but I have never heard anything said about possible build quality issues. Unfortunately, I have never used or know of anyone who has used Mamiya or Leica, sorry.

Quiet One 15 Report post Posted September 17, 2009 After years of struggling to get decent images from my crappy Nikon D80 I'm looking to upgrade to a rangefinder. I know the Mamiya is pretty much the world's best camera, but I am worried about its build quality so I want someone to sell me a bit on the Leica. I know nothing about Leica's cameras, but the company I work for is the solely distributor in Argentina for Leica's ophtalmologic microscopes. I've been working with people from Leica for many years and this can tell you from my perspective: they suck. Oh, yes, the microscopes are great (I've been told that their lenses are the best in the world, along with those of Weiss). So i guess that quality wise you can rest assured you will get the best. I only hope it won't give you as many headaches as they have given me (well, I had some troubles with a 40,000 euro microscope they shipped accidentally to malaysia instead of Argentina...go figure). BTW, they have moved their manufacturing quarters completely from Swiss/Germany to Singapore. I don't know if that means anything to you. I can't tell if that means better, the same or lower quality though I guess it will remain the same.
