Solid run for Heidfeld. Ahead of Pizza boy and completing 96 laps, should be considered for the race seat.

Here is the report: from racing-live .com

Jerez: Villeneuve fastest

Followed by Heidfeld and Liuzzi

Just like yesterday, a Sauber finished at the top of the time sheets. This time it is Jacques Villeneuve, who took over from Felipe Massa in the Sauber C23.

Once again the track was wet most of the day and many drivers went off the road : Fisichella, Badoer, Schumacher, Doornbos, Montagny, Bernoldi, Gene and Liuzzi all made mistakes on the slippery Jerez circuit.

Jarno Trulli was supposed to drive today but the Italian suffered from an eye problem and had to visit a doctor. Jarno should be back in the c##Kpit of his Toyota tomorrow.

thats very true Sato but the top 4 is a bit of a change with JV going fastest the Heidfeld then Liuzzi then Klien thats a good result for Red Bull and i hope Williams pick Heidfeld over AP because Heidfeld is a racer and not just a tester like AP.

why so excited? its just a test session.....

From what I know, they don't turn up to a test to drive slow. They drive flat out and as fast as they can. It's exciting in that JV is getting used to the car very quickly and for the prospects ahead. Sauber have had a very good car for sometime but have never really showed their potential. Maybe switching to Michellins will change this.

They go to test to try different things. Sauber are just testing tyres, with a 2004 spec car. Others have cars with most of the 05 specs. Some run more fuel, some run less. Its a test they don't all have the same situation like at a race.

I don't think it means nothing. All the F1 new websites post who was fastest on a test day. I does mean something. But you are right in that teams are testing different parts, setups, tyres and so on.

Jerez Day 4: Villeneuve still fastest

Jacques Villeneuve continued to set the pace on the fourth day of testing this week at Jerez de la Frontera in southern Spain. On another wet day at Jerez Villeneuve's time of 1m28.345s was the clear quickest - 0.8s ahead of Ferrari's Luca Badoer.

JV fastest for the past 2 days. Massa fastest the day before JV. Regardless of whether other teams are testing newer slower parts of not, they have to be slightly concerned with how Sauber are doing. 2005 is going to be one of the best in memory with all the drivers changes and so on. I can't wait. JV and Massa could podium next year if they keep up these incredible performances. JV has to be grinning from ear to ear right now. The Suaber is rock solid in terms of stability. Good things do come to nice guys afterall. JV I'm happy for you right now.

Villeneuve...P1. Has a nice ring to it doesn't it??!! Oh who cares what they're testing, let's just enjoy seeing JV on top of the timesheets, it hasn't happened in a while, and let's face reality, won't happen all that much in the future barring some extraordinary circumstances (of which I hope there are many!! ). The fact that JV did these times in the wet is great as JV is not renowned for his wet weather skills. As far as what the team is testing, they're doing mostly tyre tests to make decisions on whether to make any alterations on next years car due to the new Michelin tyres. These tests will help the team even more so as they won't test until mid Jan next year. But what a way to end the year for Jacques. Out of a drive at the start, then on goes out on top, what a champ!! :D

I have no doubt about that, Heidfeld is not one of the best but he is clearly better than AP. I think he (MH) would drive instead of AP next year

hey an article finally quoting what JV had said

from speed-tv.com

On a day most teams ran little because of poor track conditions, Jacques Villeneuve begged to differ. The French-Canadian needed 81 laps to score the fastest time of the third day of F1 testing at Jerez de la Frontera. Sauber drivers topped the three days so far, as JV was quickest yesterday with Felipe Massa leading the day before.

"I forgot what it was like to be at the top of the timesheets,” joked Villeneuve. “But I've got a lot of training coming up over Christmas. I'm only taking a few days off, the rest of the days I will be training extremely hard," admitted the 1997 World Champion, who thinks he’s still far from his best physical form.

Villeneuve’s closest chasers were Luca Badoer and Marc Gene in the Ferrars, with Ralf Schumacher setting the fourth quickest lap in the only Toyota to go on-track today - Jarno Trulli was sidelined after a small metal shard entered his eye yesterday, demanding minor surgery. The Italian driver should be back next week.
