no if i recall correctly mclaren were hot in the first tests of the off-season, but petered out as everyone else came to the party as the season start approached.

looks like this year's preseason debate will be whether sauber are going to be the real deal next year a la bar 2004.

But if the results are consistant, then we can say the car-driver package has a lot to do with it.

Not really. They can be running different specs, different fuel levels, softer tryes....plus more and you will never know all of it. Until round 1 you can't know if its true, so until its proven right it really means nothing.

I think people may get the wrong impression with what i've said, i do think JV will go well next seas0on, but i don't think testing is worth getting to excited over.

Anyone who's followed f1 for over a year will know that testing means nothing. Its only at Melbourne that we see who's faster than who. Remember the shock we all had seeing McLaren's feeble weekend? I dont know why they even bother showing testing times

And why are u interested when they dont mean anything. U can only read into it when a team brings out a new car and it starts thrashing old lap records like BAR did last winter

look ppl, I think the main reason a few of us are getting excited are because it's JV on top, and since it's been a bloody long time since it happened, and he has a big big army of fans, we got excited, so what??!! We know these tests are inconclusive and I don't recall reading any JV fan stating that he's gonna win the title, and Sauber are gonna win a few races. We're just happy to see things go well for JV for a change, and we know the real stuff doesn't happen until March next year.

Testing time are in fact very vaulable. They build/restore/retain confidence, help in evulating new parts to name but a couple of things internally. Externally, they drum up support, help to convince marginal sponsors.

So are the times reliable? Only internally.

Are they vaulable? Very much so.

What I was most happy about was that JV matched Massa in doing well at the tests. We were all hoping this would be so and not Massa beating JV by a huge margin. Massa has some great races this year, so it's certainly possible JV will have some next year. That I think also is what all the JV fans are excited about. We know he has talent, and that may finally again, come to the forefront next year.

I got the latest Autosport mag and in it was a big feature on the first testing sessions - the 4 day one at Barcelona in late November. It had what each team tested and how they went. They were positive about Sauber, who mostly did work on tyres since their change of branding, but also did work on 05 spec brakes, electronics and aero. Ferrari, BAR and Red Bull ran '05 spec downforce whilst Toyota ran the new engine, along with BAR.
