Did Vettel Actually Respect Mark?

Recommended Posts

Yes I think he respects him. And I think the relationship between them has been exaggerated ever since that 2010 Turkey GP collision, there werent that many other things that happened really, and when there was, the press jumped on it and went way over the top

Have a read of the stories out now about Webber's comments on his own website, that were then taken down. He has a go at Marko and Horner. Not really so much Vettel.

The problem with Webber is that he has a whinge, then wonders why people don't like him. Expect years of crap coming from him now like JV. He'll be the go to guy for news snippets I assure you.

There's even a story of Vettel refusing to sign a Brazillian flag to be given to Webber by Bernie. Sounds like BS to me, but the boo bus will make a return I'm sure of it.

And what is with Webber walking off the podiums lately? He did it in Austin, and the look on Andretti's face was interesting. It was flat out rude, but yet again Webber get's a pass and a pat on the back.

I think Vettel would have learned from Webber. Only he would know what he's learned, but I'm sure he would have. He looks to me to be that type of guy that pays attention to even the smallest of details. Thus he's not afraid of taking it all in and learning from whomever, all in the pursuit of being a better driver.

There goes the hopes that Webber would have gone away quietly. It's like he's two different people. He does things that are respectful and proper, then says and does things that are so stupid and rude it's amazing.

I'd like to see the comments from Mark's website, can they still be found anywhere?

I thought everyone did like him?

He has massive support in England. I thought he was one of the most liked drivers out there.

All I ever read and hear is that everyone likes him, haven't ever seen him wondering why people don't like him.

Where's this story about him refusing to sign a brazilian flag??

Yeah exactly, didn't he throw his helmet into the crowd after winning the 2010 Spanish gp? Iam pretty sure he did, other drivers keep those sort of things.

I must admit I do like Ricciardo and Grosgean simply because they both smile a lot! As does Jenson by the way.

Probably why I've never liked Kimi lol

Nah I've never really liked kimi either, but I can't Beleive how much Grosjean has turned it around, very impressed with his level of competitive consistancy, definatly turning into a world class driver.

I'm going to reserve judgment for now. He has made a massive leap towards the end of 2013 but is yet to show whether he can do it all season. There were a few races where he'd be ahead of Kimi but by the end of the race somehow he'd be behind him. Clear that his first-lap curse has vanished though!

Michael Schumacher today: "He won all those races, 13 this year; Mark Webber, he won none. That is pretty shocking," Schumacher said in a season review posted by the Mercedes team on You Tube on Friday." I'm glad I'm not his (Vettel's) team mate." (source BBC)

Schumi has obviously forgotten Malaysia already.

(for me this equalling of schumi's 13-in-a-season record will always be tainted too, given the events of malaysia...!)

Vettel never respected Mark and Ricciardo will get the same treatment.

In a word to the OP no, I don't actually think Vettel respects many people full stop and Webber would be pretty low down on the list, Webber is by no means a innocent but what happened with the multi 21 this year certainly put a lot of F1 fans I know firmly in the Webber camp and very much anti Vettel, I actually had a soft spot for RB when DC and Webber were driving and supported them as my second team, the arrival of Vettel and the perceived lack of backbone of Horner plus Markos ever present mealy mouthed comments ensured I loath Redbull with a passion

It's ridiculous to worry about who respects who. All Vettel cares about is himself, and the most successful F1 drivers have to believe this in order to win. These interviews are only given to save face. It's his manager talking, not him, and this goes for EVERY DRIVER speaking about a departing teammate whom they demolished.

Webber is and forever will be a sportsman, but his weakness are his emotions and natural ability. He's a great driver, but his cons are Vettel's pro's.

You can't truly compare how "respectful" the two were until you look at Vettel's next teammate. I am excited to see how Vettel treats Ricciardo, and I'm sure Ricciardo feels the same way based on his relationship with Webber. Ricciardo is a quick driver, and is of the same generation as Vettel. If the two manage as much success as Vettel/Webber did for Red Bull, I will be impressed. And if Vettel doesn't cry to Horner when Ricciardo is ahead of him, it will be enlightening to the Vettel-doubters.

But I'll have to see them in this situation in order to understand how Vettel actually works with a successful teammate. If he cries, we'll know why, and at that moment, he'll be no different than Alonso. RBR have successfully neutered Webber's chances to win since Webber finished third in 2010 and Vettel took the crown, barely. Since then, there's been a lot going on behidn the scenes that has miscontrued Vettel's success compared to Webber, and I'd wager that much of that has been at the expense of Webber's patience and mental strength.

I personally don't feel Vettel respects anyone but Christian Horner and Helmet Marko. They've believed in him and given him what he needs to win. He's the FIRST success story out of the Red Bull program in F1 and he won't be the last. They need him to keep winning if they want to continue in F1.

I think ricciardo will do better than webber.

As Christian Horner stated, It's time we stop underestimating Webber and his abilities... Webber is a bloody good driver!

You don't have to tell me that, but I think ricciardo might be better. Will be intresting.

I personally don't feel like I've seen anything from Ricciardo over the last 2 years to suggest that he's going to trouble Vettel much.

Another opinion on which I hope to be proved wrong!

I'm on the fence about him, too. He's had some good Q3 sessions, typically beating JEV out on single lap pace. But since he was announced as RBR's new driver, his performances have been dodgy (particularly Singapore). Aside from some qualifying pace, the only thing I've found that could be relatively impressive to Horner and Co. would be his feedback to engineers. Apparently, he's pretty good at it.

From @F1PitRadio:

"#F1Discuss But out of Marussia, Caterham, Force India, Sauber, & Toro Rosso, RIC without a doubt has the most concise & organized feedback"

#F1Discuss RIC quite often identifies at what corner or side an issue lies & makes a technical suggestion that usually results in good data

He has dipped in performance in the last few races, but how much is that down to him and not being able to set the car up correctly in the last few "tricky" Grand Prix

Ricci won't trouble Vettel in the long run. I mean how close has he come to winning in the Torro Rosso? Not even.

He might get close on a few qualies or in the race, but having a good car isn't suddenly going to make him a contender. There's simply too much race craft and things he's still learning for him to come in and unsettle Vettel.

Vettel's a big boy now and has gone toe to toe with Alonso, Hamilton and Kimi. Does anyone honestly believe Ricci is of that same calibre? I didn't think so either. Maybe one day he might be, but we'll just have to wait and see.

Well he seems to be incredibly quick in the lower categories in a decent car, so I Beleive with time, he will be a rocket, plus I think he has the whole of Australia on his shoulders. We want a need another world champion, webber was so close but yet so far in 2010, Australia has had a world champion in over 30years.
