Thats what happens when you get fatigued. You make the wrong decisions and lack concentration. Though i think Montoya is fit enough to be driving in F1.

Rubbish. My point is that physical fitness is not as important as many people think, there are other more important aspects of a good GP driver that don

Physical preparation and concentration go together in a sport like motor racing...I can tell you since I've raced...I don't think however JPM's lack of concentration is down to bad fitness...despite being fat he is fit and well prepared physically,he just eat too much but it is not a problem....He often makes silly mistakes cause it is his driving style..

F1 isn't at it's highest level in my opinion. I believe F1 was at it's highest level through the 70's to the mid '90's. The changes of '98 really messed F1 up, but that's just my opinion. I'm also of the opinion that the overall field of drivers currently isn't of the level of other years.

Take a look mate:

1995: M.Schumacher,D.Hill,M.Hakkinen,D.Coulthard,J.Alesi,G.Berger,M.Blundell

2005: M.Schumacher,F.Alonso,K.Raikkonen,J.Button,J.P.Montoya,J.Trulli,JV

I've compared the top drivers of '95 with those of 2005....and, as can you see the level is much higher nowadays....

i have only been watching and analysing f1 to be qualified to comment on the period 1997-2005, and i can say that yes it is definitely at it's highest level. the level of competition is certainly at its highest as when i first started watching there were only 2 or 3 drivers that were realistically good enough to win the title. now there are at least 5.

yes you're right, I should have been more specific, instead of mid 90's, I should have specified a year, I think I'll make it 1993, as in '94 we lost Senna and hence any great talent, big superstars and proven champions up to that points. It picked up abit with JV coming in in '96, a big name, proven winner etc, but then dropped off with the '98 regs.

Only now is it starting to pick itself up, although I don't know if Kimi, Michael, Alonso and Button collectively at the moment are up there with Senna, Prost, Mansell and Piquet. I'd take JV out of your 2005 list though, for he isn't as good as he was at his peak and is in the twilight of his career and not in the league of Kimi and Alonso, although he is still deserving of a place in F1 and can show the kids a thing or two every now and then (Melbourne, Imola for example). Although he is still a massive figure in the sport as all the Sauber caps worn in Montreal show, his fanbase, not only in Canada, but all over the world is massive, probably second only to Michael or Montoya if at all.

Question: Is F1 at its highest level ever?

Answer:  No

Unfortunately Mr Mosley seems intent on returning F1 to past technologies and not moving forward as they were doing in by gone eras. Everyone cringes when he continually annouces his further reduction proposales to handicap the cars. The overall standard of driving talent is the best its ever been.

:(:)
