As a HP insider(me mum just retired last yr from HP) HP's main contribution was not so much money as it was massive use of computer muscle for the wind tunnel and design work-no doubt worth millions--

Hey Pump, was she h-Compaq or h-HP??? I manage Engineering groups, did eComm for a while and loved the Compaq servers and storage(works)..... Loved the Compaq products and support. We're still running DL's and ML's server models here, 6 or 7 years old with no issues. Now I'm only Security Eng for platform, midrange and open systems

The HP company stock is on the rise, has been for a while. Looks like they are now more interested in investing in themselves, buying other companies and don't have the capital to do both!!! It's a shame, one of the more recognized sponsors, first as Compaq, then as HP-Invent...

My biggest problem with Compaq and then HP was my account rep, he was not an F1 or racing fan so I could never give him enough hints that I wanted VIP passes. I actually had to show him a model of their car in their offices at 2 Penn Plaza in NYC. Against my corp policy to come right out and ask, sort of sounds like kickbacks. All I ever got was polo/golf shirts, and that was free advertising for them!!!

Hope these teams don't price themselves out of business....

Well said. I am getting an AMD Athlon64 based computer soon. The most irritating thing is Intel continues to price its CPUs with comparable performance much higher than AMD contemporaries and then sells them on the basis of marketing hype.

AMD is currently engaged in a lawsuit against Intel, the gist of which is that Intel used illegal practices to force vendors to use Intel chips in their computers.

Intel Pentium & AMD are both very good processors. Intel Celeron is cheap cr@p though.

Christ Wez, don't say it's name!!! I don't want anyone to even so much as hear that name, it's like swearing!!!! I might end up ripping this computer apart and get a P4 (because no doubt the motherboard won't accept AMD chips) and a new graphics card

H-P periferals advertising---Got to go to the Euro. GP in 2003 on H-P's dime thru my mom vip the works, plus my wife and I worked into a vacation to see her homeland (Germany) and relitives that she never met as she landed here as a wee little girl of 5 in '61. My mom got me into anything that H-P advertised, Charger games etc.
