HEIDFELD TARGETS '08 WINS

BMW Sauber driver Nick Heidfeld has targeted wins for the German manufacturer by 2008.

Heidfeld, who began testing BMW's hybrid Sauber V8 machine at Barcelona on Monday claimed that it would take time before the team would be challenging at the front.

"I hope to finish among the top six next year, because I finished eighth this year, but the most important thing is not to be successful next season," the former Williams driver told Autosport.com.

"But in three years I hope we can win races by then.

"I hope by 2008 that we can win and of course it is happens before then it will be nice - but I know it takes time to integrate new teams."

Heidfeld, who raced for Sauber between 2001-'03, said that while the team seemed the same as when he left it, the level of ambition has certainly changed since BMW took over in July.

"I do not feel a big difference at the team but the goals are a lot higher," he said.

"They have at least more resources to do what they want to do and they want to be the best.

"When I was with them, it was not that they did not want to be the best, but they were realistic and knew it was not possible."

Mmmmm, did you not have a race delayed in this past season? Perhaps it was just qualifying which I know you get delayed on occasion but even still...

Yes qualifying is occasionally 'late'.

I notice that ITV have now got yet another channel, aptly named 'ITV4'. I hope F1 is featured on this new channel.

Knowing ITV, nothing like will happen.

Its just the live sport that used to be shown on ITV2 thats moved to ITV4 and ITV2 to my recollection only showed 3 live qualifying sessions that took place outside Europe.

Yes it is annoying when they (occasionally) don't show it live. It wouldn't be a problem if it were on their other channels. I can not understand why they don't do that.

You'd think with FOUR channels that we would get more live F1 stuff. They do it for football, now, why not F1?

Indeed. I don

shame he couldn't have just gone to a performing car in the first place, rather than having to wait 2 years for it to get up to scratch...
