Getting himself home again is the important thing. The world won't stop turning if we're late for work once in a while.

Hmm. Didn't sound the way I meant it to.

Buses, trains and "the underground"(subways), now they say the strike is over after 3 days......

Let's just say that we're..... ........flexible when it comes to working hours  (As long as the job comes in on time and in budget, that is!)

I am touched that you all thought of me, I got all misty when I saw this.

What a nightmare, my commute time doubled. I had to come into NYC on the commuter line as usual, but this time trek over to another transit (underground) system (PATH) that connects NYC to New Jersey across the Hudson river. They saved the day by running special trains from midtown 33rd Street to downtown Wall St via New Jersey.

http://www.mapquest.com/directions/main.ad...&1ffi=&1ex=&1n=

this is a map of where I came into the city and where I had to get to. If you pan out, I took a train from the start west across the river near Hoboken, then south down to the area south of the Holland tunnel back across the river to a station right near Vessey St (WTC). It is only 4 blocks from there to my office. That trip took an hour or more depending on the length of the line(queue) to get on the train station uptown.

Guess I could have walked the almost 4 miles (6.4km), but with temps in the teens (16F degrees -8C) and wind chill in single digits (6F degrees -13C) It was a bit to cold. At least it did not snow..

To say it was crowded, is an under statement. Picture 200,000 people converging at the same location to go somewhere else and about 50,000 of them going to one subway station for the trip to Wall Street.

In typical New Yorker fashion, everyone got through it, most with a smile on their faces. Even the Police had a sense of humor. One had a bull horn telling everyone that the reason everyone had to line up and march up and down the block in the line was so they could be thinner when they got on the trains so more people would fit.

Did not hear of one bad incident, some people complaining, but I expect they complain about everything. The queue for the return home was incredible down the block then back around to where they started. This was where the cop with the bullhorn was.

Folks like me that commute on the Railroad (different than the subway) daily have monthly discount tickets. Most of the people waiting in the long lines (picture a line of people 8 or 9 wide for the length of a typical front straight) had to buy one way tickets. You would think they would buy multiple tickets the first time, but no, every morning and every night they bought 1 ticket. Me, walked up to a special entrance for my line, showed them my monthly ticket and was on the platform in 5 minutes... Even got a seat all three nights. Can't do that on a normal day :D .

Have a Wonderful Holiday, it's 1:30 pm here in NY, I am the only person left on the floor in my office. Gonna pack it in and start the holiday early.

Peace to all

Kenny

hey kenny e, a friend of mine in nyc lives on gold street, and she was complaining of having to get to work up near rockefeller! she eneded up staying at a friends place for a week  you, on the other hand, have a legitimate reason to complain given your daily commute so it's good to see you remian in good spirits. i'm sure you woulda like to be in her situation!

happy holidays mate, and same to the others in this thread! for those that didn't know i've moved to tokyo. i've returned home to Sydney for chrissy and the weather is a fantastically sunny 27 degrees B) a great change from the 5 degrees it was when i left narita!:thbup:

Wanted to get one of those motorized chairs you see on TV, but could not find a place to rent one. Had to settle for the walker with the wheels, got me around okay. Getting to work was no problem, most of it on a downhill slope, leaving I had to have one of the kids at work push me from behind :D Actually could have used my cane so I could poke people when getting on the subway(underground) to make room. (in NY style :D )

Yeah, no beer, seems there was some issues at a Giants game and the governor of NJ banned beer sales, no problem, people got to the parking lots 4 hrs early to drink and still acted stupid in the stadium.

It was not to cold, but the wind was a killer, by the middle of 4th qtr, the toes started to get cold. Everything followed soon after that. Guess there were under 10,000 left at the end, most NE fans. I started walking out at the first kneel down with a minute left. Good news, no traffic going home since there was nobody left in the stands. Saving my ticket since it was the last MNF game on ABC.

Trivia now will be Jets on first MNF game and Last MNF game and we lost both games. :o

Now here is the killer, both games had the same score. Browns won first game 31-21 and New England won the last game 31-21...... :yikes::eusa_think: Got to give the Jets credit, they might stink, but they are consistent.... :D

Pump, my sympathy to you and your team, winning record, but still out of it because of the division record. Did not see the game against KC, but heard it was an ugly field....

ECAP, how about those Redskins. on a streak and into second place. Since you beat Dallas, your one up on them in the division. same 9-6 as Pumps Chargers, but in a less competitive division so your guys are still in it. GOOD LUCK

 Be glad you didn't watch, it was an ugly game, KC took it to us and gave us a thrashing.

Watching the Jets game only because I wanted to see what old clips they would show, just made me miss ole Howard Cosell that much more. Yes the wind looked brutal, at least Vinnie got a touchdown pass. I got an in at the Scooter store :D I can get you one for cheap, hardly used only on weekends. ;)
