If Prodrive Surprise Us All

Recommended Posts

If Prodrive surprise us all and manage to put their entry together for 2008 will Mclaren be forced to use no. 22 and 23 next year or will they be 20 and 21 no matter what happens? [bah, bring back non-championship based numbers I say]

I think it will be car 22 for Lewis Hamilton in the mclaren and car 23 for his team mate.

Then Car 24 and 25 will be the Prodrive entry.

The reason behind this is because Mclaren did compete last season despite scoring no points because they were not fast enough when it mattered. On Race day...

But thats my guess and knowing in me it will probally be wrong as usual, Like predicting Rubens Barrichello has a chance for the second McLaren seat...

I didn't think the numbers were associated with the constructors championship? So wouldn't Lewis just have no. 3?

kimi #1

massa #2

lewis #3

lewis teammate #4

alonso #5

alonso teammate #6

I am most likely completely wrong here because i have never fully understood how the numbers work, so someone please correct/explain it to me

As far as I know, the numbers are allocated with a combination of constructors' and WDC.

So let's say Bill, Juan, Tim and Steve drive for Scuderia Horsie and Vodafone Babboon Mercedes. Team Horsie wins the World Constructor's championship, Babboon runners up.

WDC:

1. Bill (Horsie)

2. Steve (Babboon)

3. Juan (Babboon)

4. Tim (Horsie)

Because Horsie won the championship, they are entitled to cars 1 and 2. Bill would get car number 1 as he placed higher in the WDC. Babboon - after having their points taken away for being a little bit silly - are entitled to cars 21 and 22. As Steve came before Juan, he would get 21, Juan 22. But then Juan left the team. Poor Juan.

Anyway, I think that's how it works.

EDIT: Blame the description on extreme boredom during the exam period.

hahaha I know the feeling, have an exam tomorrow actually! Can't bring myself to study.

Your description does make sense, which would explain why giancarlo was number 3 this year. Thanks for clearing it up

Actually, I'm not sure if I got that right - why did McLaren run cars 1 and 2 this year if they came third in the WCC in 2006?

because alonso was world champion so the number 1 went with him?

Yeah, just found it in the FIA regulations. It works like I said except that Numbers 1 and 2 automatically go to the reigning WDC and his teammate. The other numbers work as per my description.

I would like to see the drivers have their lucky numbers.

It would throw a double 6 into the ring.

Oh! Yes, escuse my inabillity to count.

I miss the old numbering system where teams had certain numbers associated with them.

Tyrrell: 3 and 4

Williams: 5 and 6

Mclaren: 7 and 8 (Or 1 and 2 of course...)

Arrows: 9 and 10

Lotus: 11 and 12

Benetton: 18 and 19

Minardi: 23 and 24

Ligier: 25 and 26

Ferrari: 27 and 28

Sauber: 29 and 30

etc. etc.

Yeah, but Bernie wants a system so that you have to buy a new hat every year with the changing numbers.

Formula One is too serious, sadly :(

McLaren would indeed be ranked ahead of Prodrive next year.

I agree.

You're excused.

Just dont do it again :nono1::nono1::nono1::king::king::king:

They were the classic days, don't forget also in the early days the Williams team also had 0 and 2 and The Great Classic Aussie Alan Jones had car 27 when he won the world title before Gilles Villeneuve and Jean Alesi Became famous for the number driving the distinct red car.

Just a matter of interest another Aussie who won A world title this season RODE the Red bike Number 27 on it with an Italian Manufactor backing it up!

And I speak of Casey Stoner!
