Ferrari Urge Raikkonen To Improve Restarts

Recommended Posts

I think that Kimi was surprised by Alonso in that one and misjudged the cars ahead of him. Usually, Alonso slows almost down to a halt right before the restart as to group all the cars behind him together and mess their restarts while he suddenly leaps forward like a hare. Kimi was probably expecting that. Instead, FA glued himself to the back of LH's car. Kimi was expecting Alonso to slow down to make some space for accelerating down the straight or get constricted behind LH and Massa. Instead, Massa, Hamilton and Alonso grouped together leaped forward very fast, effectively ruining Kimi's strategy. That is what I think, at least. When I saw the gap between Kimi and Alonso right before the restart I thought that Alonso would be held up by Massa and Hammy and that Kimi would get to the end of the straight with more speed which of course didn't happen.

a Totally acceptable sensible explanation, good one the Quiet One. Although he overtook Alonso with the pistops, that gives +1 advantage to Alonso over Kimi this year, Kimi got caught out, badly.....

Well, he did get caught out slightly, however, he didn't lose a place and it's only theory that he could have gained a place - the first 3 didn't swap places, after all.

Maybe, but the Ferrari was quicker overall. The point i believe our Muzz is making is that he should have been knocking on the door a lot stronger.

Exactly right, as always Steve.

True enough. I remeber Michael stuffing it into the barriers in Monaco in '96; Ross Brawn said "Michael has one bad day a year....this was it".

 So true!

Massa has made so many mistakes (like spinning and mowing the trackside lawn with his car) that a pattern develops.....

When a good drive from Massa is the rule instead of the exception, I'll afford him the same 'bad day' allowances.

Yep.

Yeah Andres as our Mr Brad said, nice explanation, i agree.

I wonder why Kimi is bad at restarting in a race! Juat like a few years ago when he started about 1 fifth of his races from the pits!

I don't get the impression he is taking things seriously enough, he just has these periods where he switches off. Ferrari should soon sort it out though

Well if he isn't taking things seious enough yet he is jointly leading the championship, you had better hope he stays switched off.

Was thinking earlier he could be like Fifi. Off when he has the car but absolutely on it when things arent going for him.

We saw that in Fifi's early years in F1 and when the Renault wasent at its best... USGP and Monaco 2006 recent examples.

I just think that he's comfortable in his own skin. As Mike was pointing out, he is adopting the long game approach, he knows his car will come good and he is confident of his own ability. In short, there is nothing to fear. He is still, for me, the championship favourite and by some margin.

No announcement necessary. I don't care if i'm wrong my man. In fact nothing more would suit me finer than to see conventional wisdom turned on its head.

I ment it as for your sake of being right so you see the team you support doing well.

I don't think that's an issue here. Steve has proven to be a fan of the sport first, and Ferrari second (though if I'm wrong, I trust he'll correct me). You'll not find any stray irrational bias sitting on his doorstep!

From what I remember Steve said he was not a fan of any current team or driver, just Schumi

Yeah, that sounds right. Mikey was the well-hung gent to Steve's innocent school-girl.

Ha! nice metaphor Mike.

The over powering display of red in my avatar and sig' almost certainly leads one to believe an allegiance to all things Maranello but as Shane correctly pointed out, it's all for Michael. I have no current preference, although there is a deep respect building in certain quarters.
