Rioting In Oakland

Recommended Posts

It's Rodney King all over again.......have you heard about this in the UK? A police officer shot a man in the back at point blank range while he was being held down by two other police officers. There were several videos taken by witnesses- it just looks like an execution.

Anyway, this is the sight that greeted me after I came out of the bar last night:

(01-08) 06:35 PST OAKLAND -- All BART stations are open and train service is running normally this morning in the wake of a violent protest in downtown Oakland over a fatal BART officer-involved shooting, officials said.

The 12th Street BART Station had been closed Wednesday night after dozens of protesters ignited Dumpsters, upended trash cans, broke numerous store windows and set cars on fire - including a brand-new Oakland police cruiser - to protest the shooting death of 22-year-old Oscar Grant.

More than 100 people were arrested during the protest for a variety of offenses, including vandalism and assault on a police officer.

Grant was shot in the back and killed early New Year's Day by BART Officer Johannes Mehserle at the Fruitvale BART Station, authorities said. Mehserle, 27, submitted his resignation Wednesday as Grant's family and friends attended a memorial service for him in his hometown of Hayward.

After the service, protesters gathered at the Fruitvale BART Station, which was shut down into the evening commute Wednesday. The demonstration there was peaceful, but protesters marched to downtown Oakland and chaos erupted, police said.

Flippin hell. Thats real bad. I saw the shooting on Youtube, and to be completely honest the comments I've been reading about the police are awful. One cop does not a nation make.

This reminds me of the toxteth riots, I was 5 years old and I remember my mother sweeping me up in her arms and running with me to get inside. I was sent to my uncles home in St Helens the next day for a few weeks.

Be careful Oli, I know you are a guy and all that but still be careful.

Outrageous - stay safe, man.

Now that Celeb BB is on, I can't watch Everybody Loves Raymond on Channel 4 in the morn so Sky News is all that's on, mainly about the Israel-gaza conflict!

 Wouldn't it be good if Israel and Gaza gave up fighting and decided who was going to be evicted by viewer phone-in to Sky News. The Israelis could learn a lot from Celeb BB... not to mention Everybody Loves Ahmed.
