Jacques wants revenge on BAR

Recommended Posts

To have a representative `straight fight` both JV and MS would have to use identical equipment without team orders in the same team

hence

...would like to see...
Please Senna, read the posts before automatically going into anti-Schu mode, you do this a lot. Although to be fair it is not only you.

And again MS is not to scared to have a decent team mate, he is to smart to have one, a mag (F1 Racing, I think) asked all the living DWC's about their views on this and it was over 2-1 in favour of the "Schumacher approach".

I did read your post but I don

The  Second Best before JV arrived would have to be:

JPM==RB==KM==FA==JB. There are all equally matched in my opinion.

Hi

I personally would have said kimi was clearly second best (and still will be!!!) although all the others clearly are among the best but then perhaps I'm just agreeing with my colleague Martin Brundle

Maybe , that was partly because he was stuck behind Webber, and had problems with his Renault understeering and its grip levels.

I find it amazing that a driver can be so slow in terms of a fastest lap and yet still be Stuck behind Webber (while ahead of M.SCHum. with the Fastest Lap!)...meaning had he any quickness of any type (from say doing two races)he would of passed him in the pits at least.

What does that say about Webber? What was his fastest lap?

There must be advantage of qualifing light to keep the faster cars behind you long enough to still be in the game. Ask Coulthard !

Jacques under performed in the Renault , but that to me is expected with all the newness of the Renault's operation , I mean where would you expect him to finish ? After this race viewing I think 5-6th was very good expectation and 4th the tops.

Gene did worse for a test driver on a team he has been on for years and he had 2 races to produce nothing ...ouch.
Pizzonia did nothing but 7ths for 3 races ...and he was much like Gene being on a known team for awhile. I say Jacques is way ahead of them already.

All drivers below Sato have not got anything more than a 4th- 6th ALL Year long ...whom would that be ? Coulthard/Massa/Fishichella/RALF/Gene-Pizzonia/Webber/Panis , so to jump into the Renault and all of a sudden get a decent result like these guys is abit much after being away a year ,with new everything.

Japan race J.V. has lots of experience to draw from and he did this China race completely o.k., its could of been way worse had it rained ..this way he has some dry running experience with heavy braking feedback.

I think Jacques is continuning to get faster in the Renault as he races, BAR has a stronger car and may of closed off the 2nd place already, but they were already doubling Renault's point collection in the 2nd half.

here's what JV had to say

from gp2004.com

Jacques Villeneuve made his return to racing last weekend when he competed in the inaugural Chinese Grand Prix for the RenaultF1 team. The Canadian finished eleventh in the history making event and while it may not seem a spectacular result, in reality, he put in a strong performance on his return to F1.

Jacques, eleventh on your return to F1 isn't a spectacular result. How do you feel?

It was a tough race, but I'm pretty happy really. I made a good start, but it took me too long to get into the rhythm of things. I didn't warm the tyres enough before the start and that meant the grip wasn't there on the first laps. So I lost a lot of the positions I had gained.

You said you spent the race learning: what did you mean?

Exactly that! The first thing to get used to was how the race unfolded, the profile of the thing with the way the cars and tyres are now. Before, the race pace used to be fairly slow at the beginning and would then increases. Now, it is a lot faster from the very first lap - and that just caught me out. But by the second half of the race things were going much better and I was a lot more comfortable with my pace and could really begin to push. Also, as the race unfolded, I started getting an idea of some of the directions we can pursue with the set-up in Suzuka.

Do you feel ready for Suzuka now?

JV: Definitely, yes. I learned a lot during the race and got much more familiar with the car. The car got a lot better as the track rubbered in and I could attack more, plus I had the chance to work with the traction control and differential settings during the race to improve the handling, adjusting the car as the conditions changed. Looking ahead to Suzuka, I am feeling good - I know the circuit well, and I don't think we will have any problems with our pace in qualifying or the race.

I'm starting to wonder whether Jacques might be doing his reputation some harm by coming back so soon. After all he is a former world champion remembered for beating Schumacher in a title decider and now people are wondering whether he's as quick as Alonso (who admittedly is quite good but still its not quite the same). Obviously he'll improve dramatically but by putting himself in this position he isn't allowing his talent to shine and the damage might be long-lasting as who'll notice a good drive in a Sauber?

However we shouldn't be too critical as the difference between being good and not is so small that an off-colour Schumacher looked terible. Can anyone remember a worse performance from him?

I'd have to disagree on one point. By coming back this early he gets a taste of what is to come and he gets accustomed to the GP world after being off 5/6 of the season. He gets more experience (and ferquent flyer miles) by driving the last 3 (last 2 now) races of the year. He wants to be able to get back in the swing of things. As for a good drive in a Sauber, Fisichella in Silverstone. 20th to 6th, says a job well done.

Only those who have no idea about F1 could think that JV was suppossed to be on Alonso

I can think of a worse performance from JV, most probably his worst ever, Indy 2001, qualified behind Alonso in the Minardi and was lacklustre in the race.

Actually I meant has there ever been a worse race for Schumacher - not JV as I was making allowances for his time out but I can see my post was a bit confusing.

On JV's performance I did say we shouldn't read too much into one race especially his first after a long break and I realise that he wants to get experience and that will undoubtedly help him next year. However I still think he's taking a big risk with his hard-earned reputation. Of course I never expected him to be on Alonso's level after a long break but if he's always a long way behind he's just sowing doubt (when doubts already exist) about whether he'd ever get to Alonso's pace and I think his fans will always expect more than he may be able to deliver in this situation given his lack of preparation.

Alternatively he could have started in a Sauber after having tested extensively and if he beat his teammate people would conclude that he still had it and maybe then Flavio would have given him a chance.

I'm not saying he was wrong to take the opportunity but its a big risk when some people are already wondering if he's past it for him to go head-to-head with the younger generation with much less preparation.

you make some good points, but JV was the choice for Flav as he originally asked for Fisi, but Sauber said no, but ok'd JV driving for them. It is a big risk, but at the end of the day he has a Sauber contract in his pocket so it's not as if he's using these 3 races to get a drive. He can drive with confidence knowing his future is safe and just enjoy driving a competitive car once again. We always expect alot of JV, and I underestimated the huge task it is. Going by all the variables, JV did a good job, even his critics say this, but Im expecting normal business ie. JV bashing, to resume shortly  . And as for those critics, JV has always been heavily criticised and no good performance will stop this sadly.

JV proved his speed by only being .4 behind Alonso. His race was dire on the surface, but JV himself said he didn't get a good grip of the car until half way, he set his fastest lap on the last lap, and was busy fiddling with all the instruments trying to better the car, and came out and said he already has some setup ideas for Suzuka after playing around with the car. Suzuka will be a better test for JV, and Interlagos the real test. Hopefully he can grab some points, or even a podium with some luck.

Suzuka and Interlagos will be a better test for JV indeed. But I thought he would test at Jerez, to improve his knowledge of the R24. I am a bit disappointed actually, not to see him test this week.

Let us hope he finishes in the points at Suzuka.

And oh, everybody got their wish, we did see a JV - MS tussle afterall.

It would have been good if JV tested, but jetlag would have been a big problem. Anyways, JV can only worry about car setup in the next two races rather than having to learn a new track as well.
