Radio Conversations

Recommended Posts

(GMM - Shanghai) F1 drivers' radio conversations will be broadcast on television starting in China.

Bernie Ecclestone's company is in charge of the broadcast in Shanghai and believes transmitting radio waves will spice-up the TV spectacle.

A 'monitor' will select excerpts from live radio streams, check for inappropriate language, and beam the message a few seconds later.

''Every idea is a good idea,'' said Eddie Jordan, while Ferrari's technical director Ross Brawn said opening up the radio waves will 'be fascinating.'

The technology is already proving valuable for journalists, who heard Juan Pablo Montoya scream 'there's something wrong with (my) car' in Saturday free practice.

This is good news  ..i wonder though if they'd broadcast foul conversations. Cant wait to listen Montoya screaming down the radio.

Well I SORT of heard some of the comments.!!! SORT of because every message had numerous "ECHO'S" so how anyone can decipher what was said I guess we need to have a "Trained Ear" to hear what they are saying. As I said the echo's made it almost impossible to understand for me anyway

Om the other hand it was easy to "Lip Read" what was said when M.S. spun out :D

Yea, I could only listen to 30% of the conversations, the bit when renault urged JV to pass Webber. Other than that really couldn't work out most of them.

Another question, are the bits we hear specifically chosen?? Most of them are pretty insignificant and uninteresting. They could show some frustration voiced by drivers during the race. I'd really like to know if Michael is as respectful as he normally is during races--what Michael said when he spun out (again) or when his tyre punctured. And Klien when Michael took him out.

I read that the conversations are on delay so the producer can decide what is interesting and to lessen the chance of profanities being heard, so the little kiddies won't go around shouting YOU'RE ALL A BUNCH OF W@NKERS ala JPM@ France '03.:lol:

Couldn't figure out much of what was said though, heard alot of crackling and the like, laughed when Renault boys told JV to "push, please!!" ehehehe, what else was he doing?? He set his fastest lap on lap 56, the last one, so he was pushing!!

If I was Bruni, I'd have said the same thing!! :)

When CART came last year I used a Scanner to hear the driver transmission, in a webpage was the exact frequency of the radios, for every pilot, the race control, everything...

But, in reality, the transmission is not clear, as somebody said, you need to have a trained ear to understand. I let the freq. in the race control so I knew when the race was going to start after a yellow flag.

Exactly what I did for the Indy 500, funny hearing Brian Barnhardt telling the guys PATIENCE guys, PATIENCE. we have a long way to go, as well as him talking with the "Complaint department" of pitcrews during the yellows as well as talking with Track officials about wetness in certain areas of the track.
