JV AIMS TO BOUNCE BACK

Last Updated: Friday, 15, October, 2004, 11:06

Jacques Villeneuve is determined to make amends for two disappointing races in the final event of the year, the Brazilian GP.

Villeneuve finished 11th in China and 10th in Japan, leaving many onlookers to conclude that the gamble of bringing him in for Jarno Trulli has backfired spectacularly.

The French-Canadian returned to Europe this week for extra testing at Jerez and is hopeful of getting into the points at Interlagos.

Do these people really think JT would of done any better?

Yes but JV wasn't the only replacement for JT. If the objective was to score points perhaps Davidson, Pizzonia, Gene or Wurz would have done better as they're more race-ready. Of course these aren't great names like JV though.

Exactly, he didn't exactly have a great amount of time to get ready.

So Why did they bring him in? they would have been better off with their test driver, certanaly no worse

to be honest, I think JV was brought in as a big publicity stunt for F1, and Renault. Seriously, who would expect JV to deliver what was asked considering all the circumstances..well apart from the die hard JV fans who saw an early return come from left field...but you get my drift.

Here's something from the jv-world forum, posted by 'runner' about JV's performance which puts things in perspective.

"I caught the end of fascinating interview on local rock radio today, with a BAR mechanic on his way to Sao Paolo. Did not catch his name...it was fun to hear from someone on the inside.

He is obviously very proud of BAR achievements...as well he should. BAR plans to build a new car every six months, and he says it is now a standard in F1...all the big teams will do it. And of course, there are enhancements every 2 weeks.

He was asked about JVs performance. He think he has done really well. To put it in perspective, he says it took Taku and Button 6,000 miles to get used to the car before Australia and, as he says, they were really still learning how to drive it at that point. He pointed out he would not expect much from someone who has has 4-6 hours. He said just the tires have changed so much from when he last drove...that alone gives about 1.5 seconds per lap. I did not check it out, but he said Jacques would have been in the first row for many of the 2003 GPs if he had 1.5 secs difference...that's how dramatic it is."

when you've been a JV fan for so long, you learn to appreciate good news, as it's been few and far between for both JV and his army of fans. Yes, many of us over reacted to his return, but in our heart of hearts we knew we were expecting the impossible, but it shows how much we expect of the man, cos we know he can deliver. I think tips of podiums and points were more heart decisions that ones from the head, but with all the good news, we just hoped that it would continue, nevertheless, '05 beckons and I can't wait!!

I've been a fan of JV since his carting days and was over the moon when I heard he was getting a drive with Renault and Sauber. Now I can't wait for his Renault nightmare to be over so that he can get into the Sauber, do some serious miles and have fun with what looks like a good honest team.

Renault look to me to be a treacherous lot. I don't trust them at all. Come on, they dump Fisi, now they are hiring him again. Button had an awfull time with them, now he's kicking some arse. They made the decision to dump Trulli BEFORE his run of no points races, while he was outpacing Alonso.

People are not giving JV enough credit for what he is doing currently. By Trulli's, Alonso's and JV's own words, he's driving a very difficult car. Yet the press are roasting him. Heck there was a news posting on this website saying Renault were about to drop JV. To think he was going to score points was completely unrealistic. Yes in my heart I hoped he would, but in reality I knew it would be different.

He has come 11th and 10th so far. Wow, what a complete failure. No way. Very good for having no knowledge or hours in the Renault.

I can't think of a better team than Sauber for JV right now. He can get back into the swing of things, and lately the Sauber's have been stonking, so he's definately got a good car.

Good luck JV for tomorrow.

Trulli was never outpacing Alonso, except in once off's. Trulli was outscoring Alonso in the early season due to reliability factors.

As for JV's performance in the race, I'm absolutely thrilled about it. OK, 10th on the surface looks poor, but the fact that throughout the whole race he was able to match and better Alonso's times at about .2 or .3 is very very promising and an indicator that JV has lost none of his speed. The gap to FA at the end was about 30 seconds, and that was the amount of time JV lost on the second lap when he spun off at Turn 1. Wasn't on TV, but its reported as happening. From then, JV drove well and his fastest lap was .1 behind FA's, JV did his on lap 68, so he was pushing right to the end. Had there been 2 or 3 races left, JV would have been right up there, and is a sign of good things for Sauber and JV for next, as with a full pre season under his belt and with Sauber always improving, something special may just happen.

JV isn't looking too bad for next year, hopefully the sauber will be good enuff to score points for his sack though.

Great performance by JV. Very happy with it. Renault have themselves and only themselves to blame for losing out to BAR. They cannot blame their drivers. Renault were fantastic in the first part of the season and then BAR just overtook them and smashed them in the end. One funny thing though. Now we know with good certainty that all of Sato's engine blowups were due to BAR overtuning their engines. It was hilarious to hear the commentator talk about this while see smoke bellow out of Button's car. Renault have a good car, but it's not great. I think their traction control is making up for their other weaknesses. Next year I can't seem the being any better. They will be lucky with 4-5 place along with BAR. Next year it's clear Williams, Mclaren are going to be strong. I sure hope Sauber is too.

The Sauber team is improving but they are still quite a bit behind the big teams in terms of track performance, resources and budget. Further more, Sauber might be under pressure from Toyota next year. JV did well at Brazil and this is a sure sign that he will be quick in 2005.
