Would Button Drive A Ferrari?

Recommended Posts

Read an article today that speculates that Alonso and Mclaren have already signed a deal. So ok, if that's true, where does that leave Button? I can't see Mclaren ditching Magnussen and with Jenson mentioning what he wants to do after f1, does he already know what is happening? Or would he take a seat at Ferrari? I just can't picture him driving for them and secondly, you think Jenson is a driver Ferrari would take a look at? Unless, like I mentioned once before, have Ferrari made a big cash offer to Magnussen and he is on his way out? Intresting, well I thought it was quite intresting when I thought about it.

Most likely all a load of gonads but in answer to the question, ask any f1 driver ever whether they would drive a ferrari and I'm sure the answer would be yes!

I can't see why Alonso would want to move to a team who clearly haven't got the best out of this new rules set and appear to be majorly lacking in the aero dept. At least Ferrari have got James Allison on board to turn things round.

I've never liked ferrari but as a Button fan if it's ferrari or sauber, I know what I'd rather see. And we already know that in a decent car he can get the job done no matter how illustrious his team-mate may be.

Well Ron Dennis said that next year with the Honda engine, they want a "great" driver, so what does that mean? Alonso or Vettel ? Hmmmm

Why would Dennis say that then? Wouldn't he say "we HAVE a great driver" meaning button, but he didnt, he said they NEED a great driver so I don't know exatcly what he means here's the story anyway.

Speaking as a man who never rated jenson that much, I must say that those words are deeply disrespectful towards Button. For Kevin, as well, but I don't like the shape of his head so in that case it's justified.

Sounds like to me he is already speaking about Mclaren without Jenson, that's the vibe I get.

Hmm, Button's sharp reaction to the first safety car certainly had the Ferrari pitwall nodding in acknowledgement of his nous. But, I think JB has plans. That's the vibe in the pit lane. It is generally thought he won't stay for another uncompetitive season which 2015 will surely be. He is running out of time. He has talked to the Scuderia before. He is very well respected there and he is located in Monaco. Ferrari need to make a huge step to give JB the car he seeks though. There are rumours about BMW buying Sauber again and coming back in as there are about a VW involvement. Haas wants a Honda power unit and he will wait until 2016 if he has to. He would be over the moon if JB came on board too but Jens will never move Stateside. I do not think Alonso is a better bet than Jenson in a McLaren to be honest but I feel Nando and Ron are as delusional as each other and that marriage could take place. There were other strange rumours at the weekend that McLaren could buy Marussia as a junior team, using a customer car with JB running it. I seriously doubt that. Kimi could get the boot and Alonso could move. In which case, Jenson would be the only WDC-capable driver available to Ferrari. It may come to pass - who knows.

Button's not doing to Ferrari. Not going to happen. If someone has to move aside at McLaren it will be him. Mag is doing just as well as Button and is a whole lot cheaper too. It will be Alonso, maybe even Lewis back in that seat I think in a year or two. I cannot see Alonso staying at Ferrari much longer. And them getting rid of Kimi... I can't see that happening just yet. It's not as though Alonso is winning races and Kimi is coming in 14th. In my view, Kimi has been ahead of Alonso now for 2x races in a row. Hopefully that continues. I might add there is a huge portion of Tifosi who still don't forgive Ferrari for letting Kimi go the first time. It's not going to happen a 2nd time, unless he himself wants to leave. Despite how this year has gone on, other than the pit stop issue in Barca, he's been pretty chilled about things. I've seen comments from the Ferrari TP voicing his respect and life for Kimi. Who comes in if or when Alonso leaves. Maybe the Hulk, possibly Bianchi, but Ferrari have never been ones to hire the rookies either and history has shown that.

Button may end up at Sauber, Force India or who knows, but I think surely his days as a first choice for a top team are decreasing rapidly. Williams might be a genuine option too since he did drive for them in the past.

I think alonso has had him all year but that's my opinion. It's sure a brain teaser isn't, I mean the possibilities but I can't seem him drifting down to a lower team. I think with his remarks earlier this year about having a keen intrest in rally cross, that's where he will go and might retire this year. I know he said he hasn't thought about retirement this year, didnt webber say the same thing? He will drop the bombshell later on. I would be suprised if he was still on the grid next year and even more so if its still where he is now.

It's hard to see a reason for anyone to want to go to McLaren today. They are still going downhill and RD is only more bad news for the team. Honda is nuts to get involved.

Button is not going anywhere but down. His championship was... what is was.

I think his title was a golden opportunity grabbed with both hands, whilst his team-mate did not. I think people forget how Jenson performs when he does have a decent bit of kit underneath him. In 3 years at mclaren he was consistent, he outscored hamilton over those 55-60 races, he then outperformed Perez easily and is doing the same to Magnussen (aside from that awful monaco qualifying).

Mclaren's aero team are failing miserably ever since mid-2012 when they decided to overhaul their already-decent car. Now that JB is struggling to trouble the frontrunners he's being written off. What did Perez or Magnussen ever do in the 'bad' mclarens that has shown JB should be getting higher results?

I'm sure Sir Frank would jump at the chance to get him, although I expect both his drivers are on multi-year contracts. As for ferrari there's too many what-ifs involving alonso, mclaren, bianchi, kimi...but a reliable points scorer who overtakes as well as anyone, makes almost zero mistakes, and has won 15 races isn't a bad option.

Kimi's not going to retire, not this year anyway. There is plenty of time for rallying in the future. He's more settled and calm than he's ever been. His persona life is in great shape, he's getting paid and back with Ferrari, things really could be a whole lot worse. WebRic, I don't know what races you were watching, but Alonso was beaten by Kimi in Barca on the track. The pit stop strategy was another matter. As for Monaco, I saw no reason he would not have finished 3rd, again beating Alonso. That's 2 races he's been the better and faster driver than Alonso.

McLaren took a massive hit with all the personnel they lost over the past few years. They will bounce back in time. I'm happy Ron is back to be honest. He might stick around for another 10 years, but I hope he gets things sorted, the right people in the right roles, hires who they need and they make some inroads. Right now, it's almost pathetic how badly they are doing.

I was glad to see Kimi running 3rd, but my friend you're completely neglecting to mention the clumsy overtake on Magnussen which left them both stuck in the wall! So perhaps not better than alonso that particular race...he's improving race by race though, he'll be frustrating Fernando more often soon enough I think.

It is indeed saddening to see a great team go through a dismal slump. Ron oversaw various glory-eras at mclaren so one would imagine their woes will be sorted within a year or 2. I hope ermm.gif

Kimi might have been faster in Spain and Monaco, but he didnt beat fernando, that's why he finished behind him in those two races.

If Button moves aside at McLaren it won't be down the grid. He needs a challenge and with Haas announcing a delay until 2016, [which I believed they would] it could be a Honda-sponsored drive for the US team that may get his attention. At the same time, he doesn't want to look like a chump but Haas is a very serious player and he may be around for a while. Do not bet against a complete revolution at Modena next year with LdM getting more involved and utterly ruthless. Personally, I think they need a guy like JB who has a lower profile and is not as touchy as the current pair. LdM needs to get Ferrari out of the news while they rebuild the team and Button and Bianchi might just be the way to go.
