Ricciardo should be the best bet to replace kimi but i dont see that happening. Bottas is ok. Massa is just 5 points behind bottas. Can you believe that?

No way Stevens will get the seat, he doesn't meet the criteria in terms of GP's contested, he simply isn't experienced enough as Ferrari prefer the more experienced drivers for the team.

As for ricciardo, his is still under contract with Redbull for next season as is Bottas with Williams so IMO Ferrari should get ricciardo if they have to buy out Bottas anyway.

But stevens can be the future of ferrari. That would be good move IMO. He is nearly a second faster than merhi. Now then verstappen is linked with the ferrari move.

Kvyat is getting comfortable with the car. He is nearly 0.3 secs faster than ricci. Wats happening.

Only practice mate, who knows what setups there running and what strategies there working on.

If Ferrari really had no options at all they'd much sooner put Gutierrez in the car than Stevens, because Guti is already on their books, Stevens has no link to Ferrari at all (as far as I'm aware)

David brabham and I think that's it lol.

Gary Brabham too, drove one of the biggest Sh#tboxes in F1 history, the Life 190, it's designer labelled it as "useful for nothing more than an interesting flower pot", and that was BEFORE it even barely managed to turn a wheel in mild irritation.

(I would'nt say "anger", as that godawful W12 in the back of it seldom lasted more than a few hundred metres before lunching itself)

Ferrari need to consolidate to make a realistic challenge. That means two highly effective, committed drivers giving 1000% with the gift for detailed, intelligent feedback. For 2016/17 I would be looking at Button.

Button is a fantastic driver i agree. But ferrari is not looking for an experienced driver bcoz if they are , they wouldnt want to change kimi. Kimi is also very good development driver.I say this because of his experience. I feel ferrari should look for a driver who would push vettel to his limits. So button would be a bad choice.

Verstappen/sainz/stevens/JEV/Ricci/Rosberg would be a good option.

IMO keep kimi for another year.

And why would button move to ferrari when he is going to be winning races with Mclaren honda next year.

#optimism.

I don't agree with kimi being a good development driver, he doesn't come accross to me like that, he just turns up and drives. Plus if he was, wouldnt this years Ferrari be better suited to him than Vettel?

WebRic, lots of current and past team personal have rated Kimi very highly for his feedback. I don't have the time to look it up, but McLaren raved about him, Ferrari even in 2009, the techs there raved about him. Alison had only good things to say about him at Lotus before he left, and even currently at Ferrari last year and strangely I think even from Arrivabene he said Kimi totally surprised him on his feedback and how spot on it was. The gist was that Kimi didn't have alot to say, but what he said had tremendous merit and was spot on.

How that translates him things being better for him I don't know. This years car is better than last years. Even Alison said so. But it might be that the tyres and other things, will mean realistically that Kimi won't ever be his quick self again. In race pace he's good, we've all seen it. But in Q, and with the tyres losing the plot after half a lap, it's not enough time. Kimi's like the Schu of old. They both could bang out amazing stints keep consistent laps times and just ripping it apart. But now, you gotta feel for these older guys. It doesn't seem any of them can cope with how to deal with the tyres and stuff. I just don't understand how the newbs can, because when it comes race time, they normally get trounced and blown away by the oldies.

I just think he is struggling with these turbo power units. When did we ever see kimi loose the car like we have in the last 3 races? I can't even think of anytime, just these current configs, he might not feel comfortable and probably never will. It's sad that the sport has changed so much that even some of the greats are having a hard time. His situation is different to schumis though, Schumi was away much longer and with little testing a available it really hurt Schumi as he used to test test test back in the day. He even tested for sauber in 97 in hope that sauber could use his feedback. With Schumi he left in 2006 and had to jump straight into a formula that everyone else had a chance to test and race for twelve months. Kimi on the other hand drove in 2009 so when he came back in 2012, it wasnt much different that's why he did so well straight away basically but in this new era of racing, iam sitting here scratching my head as to why he can't adapt, everyone else has.

It's not the Turbos I think that's doing Kimi in, it's the utter lack of car feedback. Drive by wire. It's rubbish. Works on planes, but it being in a car isn't right for this sport.

The power units, ERS dropping all the torque without any car feedback. Kimi can't take the blame for all 3 spins. Silverstone was greasy and wet. Montreal, Kimi was straight on the radio going WTF just happened to my car in the corner. And Austria he's stated many times he doesn't know what happened. Reading all that, one could argue none of them were his fault. But add all 3 together, and it doesn't matter truthfully if none were his fault, he is still copping the blame anyway.

I really hate this drive by wire and ERS. Since we didn't get to keep V10s and V8s, at least V6 Turbos with way higher revs, not fuel flow restrictions, no KERS/ERS and proper car feedback, none of this drive by wire rubbish, that could have given us a way better show with very little change to the costings.

Spiral, you may be right. I doubt any of the younglings have even driven a proper F1 car. Thus these new crap boxes on 4 wheels might feel to them to be fantastic. I'm surprised one of them hasn't tried to tweet or post a selfie during the race. He probably would have the skills to do so.

The engines arnt the issue, it's the regulations that stop them running full tilt. Heck for all we know, Renault could be a decent engine if they could turn it up, I know Honda would be all there performance engines need the high end revs to extract power but yea I so agree with what your saying.

I'd feel pretty safe in saying from my own experience that a lot of the "younglings" in or on the cusp of F1 these days would struggle to keep the nose pointing the right way down the track.

The peak of the V10 era was immense.
